Is anyone still a fan of the 10mm?I have a 1076 VA State Police trade-in and a 610 and G-20.I would love to see them bring back the 1006 or chamber the 1911 in the 10mm,don't let the real powerhorse 10 die to the 40 S&W,don't get me wrong I love my 40s but prefer the 10mm when it comes to putting things down quick. The tolerences of all 10mms I think are some of the best out there, they're built tight to stay that way and absorb the power of this fine round, may just be one guy wishing but the 10mm is round #2 on my list of calibers whether for CCW or hunting.

I would rather see it in the M&P line myself but that may have to do with me having a couple of 10xx's, but would love a M&P with external safety like the 45 in large and small gun like Glocks. I would rather have a safety for a CCW gun, but finally gave up on S&W and went to the dark side with a Glock 29 that I am using today.

Old Navy,
Nothing wrong with the dark side. The Glocks are a great CCW piece and don't make a bad hunting pistol either.I've not shot any of the chamberings in the M&P line yet,do they have the magazine disconnect safety? Now I know I'm not alone, thanks for the reply. |

I seem to remember that they do not have the magazine safety. I had a M&P 45 black with ambo safties, but traded it off after just 2 magazines fired. I wasn't a problem with gun, just not pleased with 45 ACP over 10mm and it I was offered more money back for the gun trading then I had in the M&P so it went down the road.
Myself I would like a fullsized M&P in 10mm so I could retire my 1086 to a display box. Both mine are that sharp and look like new guns. Old Navy,
How do you like your 610 and 1006?My 610 is a early production model with a 6 and 1/2 inch barrel and is a tackdriver,I'm still searching for a 1006,my 1076 after working out a few bugs that the VA State Police had installed,is a solid carry piece in the right rig.The 610 loaded with Lyman Devastator H.P.s is mean whitetail medicine or as a defensive round if you load your own. |

Love both and my 610-3 is also a tack driver. I seldom shoot the 1006 anymore as I hate chasing the cases and the 610 is just more fun to shoot and lot more accurate. I just ordered a red HIVIZ front sight for the 610 yesterday and just installed a new rear night sight on my 1086 that I got last month (picked up a Novak for $26) and still have to replace the front sight next month. This spring I had hope of getting in lots of range time with my 610, K-48 and 22A, but weather has been crap and then a few health issues and now it is almost summer. Well I guess I will just have to make up lost time. Old Navy,
The last sights i ordered where from CDNN in Texas, they had Novak low mount night sights for near nothing that I put on the 1076,their shipping goes from the flat rate of 9.99 on any order to 19.99 starting Monday the 21st if I read that email correctly. They normally carry Tru-Dot night sights for your G-29 for $60 + shipping if you need them,I replaced my last night sights on all of my Glocks with these and they work well.(Glocks 17,19, 20,21,22,23,26 and 31) |

The front sight I just ordered was $19.99 + $9.99 S&H for $29.98, I guess that beat $45 or more from others.
They only showed the standard rear w/o rear sights for a Glock. No night sights at all. I'll second (or 'third') the motion to bring back the 1006. Actually, I would like to see most of the all-stainless third generation pistols return to the line (and a new one - a steel framed version of the 3913 '3916', so you have the easy concealment of the original and the faster recoil recovery and greater durability of the heavy frame); while we're at it, no MIM parts, just forged stainless or forged, flash-chromed steel, like in the early nineties, since I'm depleting my stash of pre-MIM parts...

The only way Smith will bring back the 1006 series is if all of the gun magazines start demanding it -- and Smith gets bombarded with orders...
Oh yes, and it wouldn't hurt if many major LE agencies started ordering it again... Smith brought back the Centennial under similar circumstances -- so don't rule it out... But the subject has to make S&W's cash register ring for them to dance to that tune again... Smith's not in the -- I hate to say it, but must -- business of satisfying our 1006 "fetish" without sufficient compensation... |

Buy yourself a Fusion Arms 1911-type, Series 70 pistol chambered for the 10mm Auto and make yourself "happier than a speckled pup under a red wagon!" Trust me on this one, you'll never regret your decision, or look back. Bob Serva is, without a doubt, the world's best 10mm Auto Pistol manufacturer (for the money) on God's green earth! Believe it!

If you must, the .400 Cor-Bon will "mimic" the 10mm Auto untill you exceed the 165-grain bullet weight. Beyond that, you'll want a real 10mm Auto! The real 10mm can drive 200-grain bullets to 1225 fps (Double Tap brand ammunjition.) The 10mm is what you want to carry in both the city streets and in the field! Unless you are whollyt committed to the .45 ACP cartridge, the 10mm can do everything that the .45 ACP can, plus a whole lot more!
There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with the .45 ACP. Believe me, that .45 ACP is one of the best antipersonnel cartridges extant. The 10mm Auto, however, can exceed the .45 ACP's performance in both "the steets" as well as in the "long tall grasses." If don't think that anyone could argue with the effectiveness of the Double Tap 230-grain JHP that clocks at 1010 fps from a 5" Government Model barrel. This load yields 521 fpe and plenty of expansion. On the other hand, the 135-grain 10mm Double Tap Load blows out of a 4.6: Glock Barrel at 1600 fps and churns out 767.5 fpe! In an urban setting, this arrangement has a number of advantages. a: It tends to deposit all of its energy with the first 12" of flesh and bone. (IMHO, that's pretty much where we want such energy to be placed, isn't it?) b: If it strikes a wall, the bullet tends to stop right there, preventing injury to others behind the wall from unwanted injuty. c: If more penetration is needed, you can purchase more powerful loads, with heavier bullets that can easily outpenetrate any .45 ACP load! In short, the 10mm is not "better" than the .45 ACP, it is simply more versatile. No "change of platform" is necessary. You simly must realize that the 10mm has different perameters and limitations than the .45 ACP. The .45 ACP was "improved" by the introduction of the .451 Detonics, .45 Super and the .45 SMC. While these are great cartridges in their own right, they are limited by case length (powder capacity.) I hope that this clarifies the issues of both cartridges. Scott 10mm Auto... I'm still partial to the Ace Hindman Springfield 45 Super which will also shoot any 45ACP interchangeably. In my hand I am holding a box of Triton Hi-Vel 45 Super 185gr JHP rated at 1300 fps and 694 ft lbs. I shoot mine with mixed ammo all the time, but prefer the hard hitting 45 Super.
