I've always wanted the '' Dirty Harry '' version/model of the 44 Mag.
What do I need to know about that model to get what I want? Thanks for the help! |

Mule is correct, 29-2 with 6 or 6.5" barrel. I think the one used was probably one with an 'N' prefix. Earlier ones were 'S' prefix.

The guns used were Model 29-2 with 6-1/2" barrels. According to Roy Jinks there were two of them provided before the shooting started by the Factory. MAK

Here's my .44, an early 29-2 "S" serial number with the 6 1/2" barrel. I love this gun!

You can get a blued 6-1/2" 29 new from S&W in their "Classics" line, if you can deal with the internal lock. http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/P...rn=48302&isFirearm=Y When you use it, remember to squint and to grit your teeth when you talk, and to carefully count the number of rounds. |

I think there was a rumour back in the 70s that has since been debunked by Roy Jenks, in that supposedly S&W didn't have any Model 29s
and they shipped the movie company a 57 w/6 1/2" barrel since it would be tough to tell the difference on screen. Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. - Dylan Thomas |

B-Justice the m57 has never had a 6.5" barrel, but with its 6" barrel it would have been almost impossible to tell from a M29. Too bad the C. Eastwood is not a forum member, he could set us straight. I'd go with Roy's explanation. I can still remember seeing the trailer before the movie came out. It got my attention as I recall saying" damn, that's a 44 magnun" to my soon to be wife.

There is a model out there that they call the Dirty Harry gun that comes in a presentaion case
that I think is marked as such has anyone else came across anything like this. I have only came across one of them "I have alot of firearms not one of wich has been used as a weapon" |
