I wonder if we put enough pressure on S&W, will they quit putting that damn lock on their revolvers? I have personally vowed not to buy any Smith and Wesson that has that lock. Luckily, I have 10 that don't.

Keep your fingers crossed. I talked to a person in S&W's revolver department last month. I was told that S&W is aware that there are many who won't buy lock equipped revolvers.
I was also told that they are "exploring" moving the lock to a different, less visible location, and "exploring" selling runs of lock free revolvers in the free states.
So despite the chants from the S&W cheerleaders that "the lock is here to stay", there appears to be hope. Regards 18DAI.

If they feel they just MUST have a lock (and I have NO idea why they would), it would seem to be a fairly easy task to put a lock in the grip frame (preferably completely hidden under the grip panel...) to block the hammer in much the same way that the cylinder stop blocks the hammer when the cylinder is open.

Sell them with a pad lock! OPEN CYLINDER PUT PAD LOCK OVER TOP STRAP. Or PUT PAD LOCK THROUGH TRIGGER GUARD BEHIND TRIGGER. Either way locks the revolver so idiots can't shoot it. For those who arn't idiots you can take the pad lock and throw it away!(Only a idiot would want a gun he couldn't fire)

For the record- I'll put in now for the following NIB sans-lock runs from Smith: 340PD, 686+ and a 629 to boot!
Three sales from this one little customer! ... and that's just the first month....
If they're worried about saf-t-hammer going under, maybe they should think of the money they're leaving on the table in their bread and butter market: selling guns!

If every member of the forum pooled their money together, maybe we could buy S&W and do whatever we felt like.... There have been quite a few changes in the last 30 years, if we could just do away with the locks, it would be worth my share.... are there better people than S&W fans to make suggestions and build the most desireable guns?
