I just removed my stock straight back grips and installed some Houge rubber grips. Now I bring the gun up and the sights line up perfectly. I dont recall that ever happening to the degree of precison this smith does now. I am looking forward to tryin it out and see if my groups improve at 25 yds. That for the tips here on the hump back grips.

GIJoe, Thanks for the heads-up on the Houge grips. I just bought a NIB 4506, and I'm sure I'll need to change the grips. I've got Houge's on my BHP MKII and love them.

I'm partial to the Hogue rubber panel grips as well. I have them on 7 or 8 of my pieces...though I have come to like the Delron humpback grips on the smaller Smith's...

I altered a set to make room for the decocker on this 1076. The Hogues make the gun much more stable in my hand especially when hot and sweaty

You can order factory grips for the 10 and 45 series directly from S&W. They run 15-20 bucks a pair.

I have Houge rubber grips on a 4006 but still havt the stock grips on my 4506. Will likely put a new set of Houges on the 4506 as well.

Installing the hump back was the first thing I did to my 4506.

Hogues should have been standard on these guns!

A little known problem existed with the Delrin stocks -- and I think -- triggered a recall...

It seems as if you dropped a 3rd Gen gun with regular stock Delrins in cold weather and it hit the butt end of the gun, that could freeze up the gun...

If I recall, S&W either replaced the stock grips or sent an insert...

My Smith rep -- with a wink and a nod -- told me to put Hogues on mine...and not to delay...

Apparently, a 3rd Gen with Delrin grips in cold weather could hit on the butt -- and cause the mainspring to seize up...

It was comparatively rare -- granted -- but the Hogue grips have that fiberglass inner lining and the rubber overlay. So they cushion the impact on a dropped gun.

Hogues are just superb stuff!

I "thought" that the factory grips on my 4566 and 63 fit my hand really well, they felt great. Then, an instructor said, "those are too small for your hand." I thought he was crazy, but gave them a try and wow, immediate improvement, more room for my weak side palm to stick to the gun with a thumb forward grim and much more uniform and controlled recoil.
