Sorry if this is a duplicate post or rant. I just got off the phone with Smith. I called regarding the rebate. I bought two m&p's in April and still have not got my mags. The guy was real nice but told me that they are backlogged on 95,000 magazines right now. He also told me that they are just now beginning to ship the magazines of the customers who sent their rebates in during the beginning of March. He then told me that I probably wouldn't see any mags till at least October. All in all it was pretty discouraging. I realize that they are free, but when I nicely mentioned that the time frame is definitely outside of the stated/printed time frame on the bottom of the rebate form, he had no comment. I am not affected by not having the mags. However, there are a couple of reserve officers on my department that only have one extra mag for work as they bought the gun because it came with free mags and because they really can't afford the extra money to buy additional mags. Okay, rant over, I feel much better now....thanks! Big Grin

You know, if you all used wheelguns, you wouldn't need magazines.

Just thought I'd point that out.

I bought a sigma in march with the same or similar rebate. It took 3 emails to get an answer. Not to mention the mags didn't arrive till the end of June. Got the same story about backlogged manufacturing at the mag plant.

Twogun, I feel your pain. But rest easy, they will come. I bought 4 pistols that qualified for rebates of one kind or another. It took a long time, but I got all the magazines and all the money promised. The good news is that S&W is moving a ton of product via rebates. Hopefully that bodes well for the future of S&W and all of us collectors.

Like "Old West", I too received all of my mags and rebates on about 4 or 5 M&P's I bought. I just got a 5" 9mm M&P this past weekend. In filling out the free magazine "Hot Summer Special" coupon, I noticed that it now goes to an address in New Jersey instead of Springfield. I can wait for mine! WinkBob

FWIW:

Smith & Wesson has one of the best Customer Service Departments of any firearms manufacturer I've had dealings with.

So, I sympathize with you in the expected long delay in getting your free stuff, but hey, it's free stuff...

I bought a Walther P99/AS and P99c/AS last year and each purchase qualified for a free range bag. It took a pretty long time but eventually both bags showed up. (S&W is the importer for these Walther pistols and handles rebates & free stuff).

Best Wishes,

Jesse

It seems to depend on what magazine you have requested... some come faster than others... supply and demand I suppose.

I was told the problem is the manufacturer only has the capacity to make so many mags per day/month or whatever. As a result they are really backed up... apparently S&W under estimated the redemption rate on the coupons.

The redemption rate for most coupon offers is pretty small nationally ... and I expect they based their orders to the maker of mags on the statistical redemption rates nationally...

I do know they are trying to catch up as fast as they can...

One footnote... the poor guys answering the phones don't like the situation either... and it isn't fun dealing with the upset customers... so I try to be extra nice to them... I KNOW they are not having a good day...

I just purhased a 908 a couple weeks ago and I ordered two additional mags and had them in a week. But of course, I paid for them. Guess it takes longer when they are free.

well wefski, it might also have something to do with 908's not having a free magazine rebate, ya think?

got my Sigma in late April, got my mags sometime in July, like I knew I eventually would

Well, being that the demand for 908 magazines is close to a statistical zero and the demand for M&P magazines in all calibers is off the scale, that is hardly an unexpected occurance.

Better they take their time and do 'em right, lest one wind up with rushed, poorly made (read USA) mags.
