I got one of J&G Sales catalogs the other day and noticed they have police trade in 4563 TSWs for $429 in very good condition. I really like the looks of the gun. Are they good guns? I noticed the add said the frame is made of alloy. Will they hold up as well as the all steel framed S&W 45s?

They're the standard "carry a lot, shoot a little" story. I doubt they're 20,000 round guns (just a SWAG comment -- Scientfic Wild-Assed Guess)with hot loads before they start showing serious wear. Again, just a SWAG comment and my take on it. I might be completely wrong. I almost was -- once...

run, don't walk, to the store and buy it. The 4500 series are great guns.
The first one I had, shot low. It had that rail under the dustcover too. I despised the rail, of no use to me, and it looked like hell. Made finding holsters a pain too. I traded it.
The current 4563TSW I have, I got in a trade with a forum member. I had the rail removed, a trigger job, and NS installed, and a spurless hammer put on. It's my tack driving duty gun now. If you keep the recoil spring changed regularly, and grease the rails, oil dosen't adhere as well, it will last a long long time. Hope this helps. Regards 18DAI.
Model 19 Combat Magnum. Everything you need in a revolver, and nothing you don't.
The 4563TSW was the last duty gun I carried with the LAPD before I retired. The alloy makes it a nice carry gun and they shoot extremely well. Here's my two daily carry guns when I worked Narcotics:
