Man a couple years ago when I first got into 40cal I wanted one of those really bad, but they were priced just above my threashold of pain with so many other smiths available for less..then when they discontinued the model I still couldn't get a deal on one as the shops all had such a high cost in their NOS that they just couldn't come off price enough to get me to buy. I'm into 45 cal more now so I've lost the yearning but it is a cool gun. I think any holster that might fit the lady smith? 9mm will also fit the 4040?
Any holster that fits the 3913 LadySmith (or, equivalently, the 3913 NL) will fit the 4040PD. Some holsters for the regular 3913 (no rail, of course) will fit (e.g. the ones from Kramer) and others will not fit (e.g., the ones from Mitch Rosen). It depends on exactly where the holster uses a tight fit for retention.
As for the 4040PD i actually found it used at Cabela's in Maine for a good price...it actually still has the original price tag on the box for $655. Needless to say I paid less and I doubt the gun was fired at all. Have your local Cabela's check for it used in their computer system my guess is there are still a few out and about. As for the gun it shoots great and I have been very happy with it. I think it handles better than my mini glocks.

I use an old Milt Sparks Summer Spec . single belt loop. It was for one of my SW 9mm-39- I would like a SS 2 but they were not made back then,I like 2 loops and body guard. Good luck
I have a 4040pd and wear it every day as an off duty weapon to and from work. I called S&W several weeks ago and they instructed me to call KRAMER LEATHER. I called and spoke with Will Kramer who set me up with a custom order. I ordered an open top/fbi cant/black/horsehide/ Belt holster for around $120. I love it and this is the last holster I will ever buy for this model. They should still have the custom mold that they use to make it with, good luck. Here is his email:[kramer@kramerleather.com]
