I took my 669 to the range today. Shot fine, no problems! When I get home and go to disassemble it I can't get the Slide Stop Pin to come out. The slide will still lock back as normal and the pistol worked perfectly while I was shooting earlier. It seems to function fine now! It's just that I can't field strip it for cleaning. I even had my son tap on the pin with a brass punch while I held the slide in the correct position with the take down slots aligned. Didn't change anything. Any one have any suggestions??

They can be quite stiff... use something to push on it whilst holding the slide back... I use a brass punch, but I have also used a plastic tooth brush type cleaning brush too...

Have you tried applying some gun oil, or penetrating oil to the slide stop pin and letting it sit for a few minutes? Then try to remove it either by hand, or with your brass punch or nylon brush handle, etc.?

Yes, the mag was out. I'll try lubing it up, maybe that will work. Thanks for the suggestions! If any one else has any more, I'm Listening!!

Make sure you are useing the correct take down allignement. The slide should be only about half way back, not all the way back where the slide stop lines up with the slide notch. The slide hold back notch on the slide should be lined up with the pin hole in the frame. Good luck!

The notches were aligned. I have had this pistol stripped down many times and have never had a problem. I'm stumped!!

Did lubing the pistol work? This is the only thing I can think of that might help. My H&K P7 locked up one time, and the only thing I could do that freed up the slide was a liberal application of Rem-Oil, and then hitting the back of the slide with my hand to finally get it to cycle. Once I got it to cycle, I was able to disassemble and clean it up. I'm wondering if you have a carbon build up from firing it that's keeping you from disassembly. Good luck, Dave |

Shouldn't be any drastic carbon build up. it's only had about 50 rounds fired through it since the last cleaning. I pretty much clean my guns after every range trip. The pistol will cycle fine and it still shoots fine. I just can't get the slide stop pin out!

Can you get the slide stop pin to move at all - even a little bit?

Nope, it won't move in or out at all. It will work fine to lock the slide back, so it still rotates in the whole but it won't move when I try to push on it from the right side to extract it. As I said in an earlier post, I even had my son strike it with a brass punch while I held the notches in alignment. Still didn't move!

Just wanted to thank every one for their suggestions!! I squirted the assembly pretty liberally with Break Free and let it set awhile. Tried it again and "voila" the pin came out. Still don't know why it wouldn't come out before but at any rate my pistol is now clean and functioning normally. Thanks again!!

Check your detent plunger in the end of the recoil rod. It is what holds the slide stop in place, I have had them stick or get worn and not move freely.

Thanks handgunner! I did check everything over once I had it field stripped. I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. I specifically looked at the recoil rod and the slide stop pin. I didn't see any burrs or abnormal wear. Who knows?? After taking the gun apart and putting it back together everything works as advertised. I field stripped it a second time just to ensure that everything was ok and had no further problems!
