So far i'm happy with the accuracy and handling of this heavy pistol I'm starting to prefer it more than my 1911's.
So far the pistol came with 2 magazines. Are there any other .45 mags in the S&W line-up which are compatible with this pistol? Thanks for the input. |

I've got a 645,745,&845, had a 4506 and found the mags to be interchangeable among those models.
The local gun emporium has a bargin bin where I pick them up used for around $10. Full size .45 8rd S&W mags have been produced with both steel and plastic base plates, steel and plastic(in a variety of colors)followers that all seem to function. I suspect that there were improvements with the changes but on the range I've had no problems w/any I've picked up. Suggest you do a search on this topic, believe it was covered at some point. Great guns aren't they?.......Shop around at the gun shows. Mags seem to be plentiful.
I usually pick one or two extras up every year. I always pick up the early mags with the steel followers. I've never tried one with the colored plastic followers but my 645 seems to like the steel followers just fine! |

Here's a magazine compatibility chart I made up. It's based on info I gleaned from the S&W website:
SMITH & WESSON .45 ACP MAGAZINE COMPATABILITY CHART 6 ROUND MAGS 4513TSW 4553TSW 7 ROUND MAGS 457 457D 4513TSW 4516 4536 4553TSW 4556 4596 8 ROUND MAGS 645 745 4506 4526 4546 4563TSW 4566 4566TSW 4567 4576 4583TSW 4586 4586TSW 845 I have this as a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. If you would like a copy, send me an email. It's in my profile 1. Don't sweat the small stuff. 2. It's ALL small stuff. |

I purchased a new unfired without a box (old dealer stock) 645. It is surprisingly accurate and feeds every type of ammo I have fed it including 185 gr. LSWC. I like it!

I carried my 645 when I was commanding a couple of drug task forces. Great shooter. Feeds anything. Also carried a 457 as backup. The 645 weighs a ton. By the end of shift you could tell you'd been packing some heavy equipment.
Still carry my 645 on occasion. It just shoots good. 183rd FBINA |

I have a 645 that was worked over by Wayne Novak. He added a 4516 upper to the 645 frame, so I can be compact(but heavy) whenever I want. It an extremely accurate weapon, I have been using it since early 90s, still like it, particularly in uniform where I can use a substantial belt to hold the rig.
