Is there any interest in S&W manufacturing a 5 inch field barrel with sights; the type they made 25-49 years ago. Just the barrel and not the complet pistol, though that is a possibility.

If there is enough interest maybe S&W will make a limited pre-paid run. I know that if you can find a used model 41 field barrel the price is going to be $300.00 and over.

A new manufactured barrel should run the same as the standard 7" and 5 1/2" barrels currently made. Maybe even less because the rear sight will be more compact and probably less money to go with the lines of the light weight barrel.

Count me in for a field barrel.

Would be a nice addition and fun to use.

In a heartbeat! Old ones are hard to find and expensive and also wouldn't match the finsh on my recent production 41.

I would be willing to buy a whole new 41 if they would selling one with the field barrel option again!

"Is there any interest in S&W manufacturing a 5 inch field barrel with sights"

What is the difference between a "field" barrel and standard barrel?

Thanks, Mike

Man, that is almost exactly what I'm wanting to put together. Are those Herrett grips?

If S$W releases an exact copy of the field barrel, that will probably diminish the value of existing ones, since many people buy them to shoot rather than to collect...

I'm in.

Yes Sir, Those are herretts that I bought used and were a bit banged up so I refinished them. I did a little extra fitting around the frontstrap and I undercut the back to my taste. This Model 41 set up like this is really a joy, mine had a Clark trigger job done by it's previous owner and it is nice. I can say that there is a significant difference between the 5" field and the 5.5" heavy barrel when shooting with either. The 5" has a bit of recoil and it makes the 41 handle more like a 1911 in balance. For accuracy I prefer my 7" unit, almost like a rifle.

The 5" field barrels were originally created by S&W finding a away to use 7" barrels that had rejected at the factory due to a defect.

Maybe they are no longer available because modern manufacturing has all but eliminated those defects???

I would sure like to see a lighter 5" barrel become available, the 5.5 heavy barrel is just that... too heavy!!
