Gunhacker, where did you get the facts about how/why the S&W 41 5" bbl was produced. Would appreciate some verification.

Wow!!! That place is a rip off. They have a DW 722 for $750 real value would be $400 to $500 max. They have a new Marlin 22 Mag with scope for $450, I can buy the same model Marlin with a 3x9 scope for $240 here at local gun shop. I emailed them what I thought of their prices and made an offer on the Dan Wesson 722 of $500 that I may regret, but it does have original box with papers. On May 8,1959 the factory introduced a lightweight 5 inch barrel for the Model 41. Some refer to it as a sporter barrel. This gave the shooter an option of having a target barrel and one that could be carried in the field. The five inch barrel, according to Roy Jinks in a factory letter, was offered as a standard or as an accessory that could be purchased separately. Makes a neat combo for the greatest 22 auto pistol I have ever owned. Mark McCarver
