I have a new Gunsite 1911. I love the gun except for two things. The finish on the slide is showing wear at the muzzle after only after a couple of days. I have had it in a nylon clip holster till I find something better. Also about every third round the brass ejects and hits me right between the eyes.

Other than that the gun shoots great except for the flinching from me for the brass. Also I can't believe how light the gun is even with a loaded mag. One thing I tried was 165 grn hydra-shok low recoil. They shoot good and I can't tell much of a difference in shooting them and the 230's in my 5 inch stainless. Also makes the loaded gun feel much lighter.

Try an 18 lb recoil spring, on mine it stopped the brass flying into my face to dropping by my feet. On all mine (I have two) the finish is perfect, any chance you could post a pic? The GS emblems on the frame wear down pretty quick so I had one of mine hardchromed and at the same time he etched the logo into the frame.

thanks for the advice on the spring. I don't have a picture right now. The wear is near the muzzle on both sides.

What kind of wear, can you describe it, if it bothers you send it back to S&W on their dime and have them refinish it. I have done that before, bottom line is sometimes their QC sucks. Melonite is an awesome finish when done correctly and should not show wear that quick, I have over 5,000 rounds thru one of mine and it still looks brand new. Call them and ask, last time I sent one in for refinish it took under two weeks and they did an awesome job.

Best I can describe it looks like holster wear on a gun that is a couple of years old. I am not a person that bitches to much but this gun is basically brand new and showing wear way too soon. There must be something wrong with the finish.

The call S&W and have them send you a prepaid label for shipping. I'd shoot it somemore first to determine if any other "tweaking" is needed.
