I just bought a SW99 in .40 and have a question about the trigger. My SW990 is a DAO; so, I'm not sure about this one. When I pull back the slide and use the decocker, the trigger works in the DA mode I'm used to. But, if I don't decock, the trigger seems to click back to a shorter pull length. Is this normal?

Normal; sound like a traditional DA SW99. Great piece.

Sounds like your SW99 is a TDA. Double action for the first shot and single action with a short trigger reset for subsequent shots.

When you pull the trigger and it clicks back you are removing the anti-stress feature.

I don't own the gun but if I wanted one I would go with the 990L because I don't care for the gimmicky idea of the decocker and the anti-stress trigger mode. However, most people seem to the prefer the AS model.

I have one just like yours. The trigger is working as-designed. I like mine very much.

The standard SW99 (and Walther P99) have the Walther "Anti-stress" trigger. When the slide is pulled back to chamber a round, the striker stays in the rear position but the trigger stays forward. This leads to a light but long trigger pull. Subsequent shots have a short trigger reset. Decocking the gun puts it into DA mode with a 10-12lbs. pull.
