I am very fond of my S&W 3rd generation collection, eight 9mms, four .45 ACPs, and one .40 S&W. I have many handguns and rifles in various calibers and reload for several. I had successfully avoided any 10mm Auto pistol, until early afternoon yesterday.

During lunch last Thursday, I visited my local indoor range and gun shop. The counter guy says, hey the boss just took in some loverly S&W handguns on consignment. The two revolvers were very nice, but nothing I was particularly interested in. Then he pulls out a 1006 (TEV12XX) in 99+ condition with both original magazines but no box. The dealer had not yet put the price on them and, since I hadn't seen a 10mm come up in a long, long time around here, I figured he would price it at around $600, mayby $650. Besides its 10mm . . . not another caliber. Roll Eyes So, I said I would come back in on Saturday after the 4th of July.

I came back in on the Saturday and he had priced the 1006 at $500 - Eeker - very reasonable here in Southern California. I field stripped and examined it again and said, "Sh**, why does this have to be so darn nice and priced so right . . . it's a 10mm and I don't want another caliber." I passed and thought surely someone will buy it.

I revisted the shop yesterday and it was still there. The guy working the counter yesterday has become a friend over the past couple of years (he collects Italian Berettas). He sees me agonizing over the 1006 and says here take 50 rounds of range reloads, take it out on lane 4 and see how you like it. If you buy it, fine. If you don't, you get to come back to the work bench and clean it. Well, I fired it, wiped it down, and bought it. Oh geez, another caliber. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes It sure is nice though, and never skipped a beat on the range . . . even with the crappy range reloads.

I'll post photos when I pick it up a week from this coming Thursday.

Don't think of it a new caliber, just a slightly longer version of the one you already have.

I think it a wise purchase, I don't see any problems getting your money back in CA.

You made a good buy. I have two NIB 1006s in my collection. I am looking to pick another up to use as a shooter. Prices are getting high on 1006s.

the 1006 and Delta Elite infected me with 10mm disease, I have had it ever since. Still have a 1006, but the Delta left me.(I was so stupid) Got a 1066 and a converted to 10mm GP 100 to keep it company. A Glock 29 will soon come to the fold and I am anxiously awaiting the new Fortis from Vltor.

Congratulations on your new pistol. I was also a late comer to the 100 fold. Not that I was all that worried about a new caliber (especially since I already had 10mm dies & some components that I used for my .40 S&W's) but I never seemed to find just the right combination of circumstances/pistol/disposable income to justify adding one to my collection. That changed a couple months ago when I stumbled across a very nice 1076. So far, I have been equally well impressed by both the cartridge and the pistol. I hope your experience is as positive as mine.

Seems a good reason to buy a 1076 or a 610 for ammo commonality. Wink

You could solve your "another caliber" problem by selling or giving away all your others -- and just keeping the 10mm...

It is, after all, the most versatile pistol caliber ever -- and really a near-rifle-class cartridge -- in a handy handgun... Big Grin

And you can get it going slow -- or really, really, well, fairly, fast...

Well, as I noted in another thread I started (Other Thread), I figured I would go back to the dealer who sold me the 1006 and pick up the 1076 (99+%) w/2 mags he had for $450. Eeker So, now I have a pair and can justify buying more ammo and components. Roll Eyes Big Grin

I am in So Calif also,,,the 10mm S&W is not on the "approved Ca gun list (DOJ) so they can't be brought in Ca anymore, unless your a LEO. This should make it worth more in Ca anyway.. Great find... I had a similar find also,,picked up a 1076 and 1006 375 ea. at my local range, this guy was going thru divorce and wanted to get rid of a couple of guns..
