Here's the new to me model 39-2, s/n A2848**

It shows some use in the rails, but for the most part it's in pretty good shape. The bore looks pristine to me, although the finish on the barrel and guide rod is well worn. Lock up is very tight, and the trigger is OK for a TDA pistol. I think I did OK for $249.

I'm not real fond of the grips on it, though...anyone know of anyplace I can get some factory grips for it? Could I still get them through S&W? I saw some on e-bay, not too impressed, plus I'm not real keen on using e-bay for anything, due to their anti-gun position.

I'm still not sure of the niche this one fills for me...can't ccw in Wisconsin, and if I could, I'd use my M&P or SR9 for the capacity. Plus, I only got one mag with this one, but based on some comments here, I may take a look at Pro-Mag, since this most likely will be just a range gun.

Anyway, here she is:

Try Gunbroker for the grips. I've seen Model 39 grips there in the past, but don't know if there's any there right now.

Nice looking gun!

A 39 with character.... I like it! Post a WTB in the Classified section of the Forum and you may just find the grips you're looking for.

Good Luck, Jerry

toocool - congrats on the 39-2 and the free grips! If you really don't want the grips that came with the pistol, come up with a price - I'm interested if they're in good shape (no chipped corners, scratches, etc.)

You didn't ask but just in case..1975-1976 production. I've had a number of 39-2s over the years..right now have one 39-2 and a 39. Sad WI hasn't passed any CCW laws..sooner or later enough folks will let the politicians know what they want...

Congrats on the find..

Joe:

Because of your kindness, and thanks to Gary's, he's offered me his grips gratis. Nice example of 'pass it forward'. To both of you - I definitely will keep the motion going.

Here's a 1981 gun that has grips from a 1950's Model 52.

Was at an antique show yesterday, and one of the vendors had a model 39 in his case. He was asking $500.00. It seemed to be in really nice shape ..... but 500.00???????
