I'd like to try a 1911 in 40 S&W. I'm not a purist, so it doesn't need to be a true 1911. It just needs to be SA and have the controls in the same location as a 1911 (like a Colt 380 gov model). I want a gun that's commander size or smaller.
So far, all I've been able to find is the Springfield EMP, STI LS, and Colt made the Defender for one year (1999?) and a few Commanders. Are there others that I'm missing?
Did S&W make anything? I know that there's a lot of good DA guns out there, but I want a SA. Thanks for any info and suggestions.

Kimber, Para Ordnance and STI make 40s. I want to say I've seen a Springfield in 40 also.

Take a look at the Star Firestar and the Astra A-70's...They meet all of your requirements and are VERY under-rated. Just my opinion.....

It's a full size, but Les Baer makes a great looking .40 S&W. They call it their Baer H.C. 40. 19 rounds of pure fun Smiler. Check it out at www.lesbaer.com/HC40.html.
Good luck on your search!

Sgt Preston here. A friend of mine has a LOT of guns. And Joe's one of those guys who'll hand me one of his prize possesions & 2 mags of ammo & say. Shoot it & let me know what you think. His 1911 in 40 calber is a Dawson Precision. Dawson buys new 40 cal Para Ordanance & enhances them from top to bottom: new sights, trigger job, reliability job, etc, etc, etc. Joe has handed me this gun several times & it is just awesome. It's a fun shooter. If I could afford another gun & another caliber, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

As said, there's a few companies that make 1911's in .40 S&W.
I have an STI Trojan in .40 S&W I bought about 8-9 years that I'm very happy with.
I believe STI also makes a Commander-sized gun.

S&W Performance Center made the 945 in .40 for a brief time. Obviously, being a Performance Center gun, it's pricier than most but well worth it.

I have shot the Kimber Gold Medal in 40 and it is an excellent gun though no match for my PC945.

Thanks to all that responded. I appreciate the info.
Maybe I'll find something at the OGCA July show.
