Hello to all !!

I just purchased myself from a local gun store,a pristine looking production run #1 of #100 LEO personal ccw.

Bought the 669 and proceeded to clean it up to get it ready for the test run at the range tomorrow.

As soon as I removed the slide and began to clean it I noticed a small hairline crack in the frame where the slide comes in contact.I thought it was a scratch until I grabbed my magnifying glass and looked closer. Cracked from the top down about1/4 of an inch.

So I need my fellow smith Owners to guide me in the right direction.

1- Being a used handgun, will SW cover this under their warranty?

2- Or should I take it back to the gun store and get them to exchange it?

3- It was a great deal at $299 and I really like the model, but I dont want to have pay a bunch of $$$ to get my "new" used gun up to speed.

Help guide me oh wise ones...Im pretty bummed !!

Thanks in advance for replying to my fact finding mission !!

I would simply return it and demand my money back. If you want to keep it instead, call S&W customer service and find out if it's safe to use. I've got to tell you that your description of the crack's location needs to be better: I've seen many 1911s with cracks in the frame dustcover that were perfectly safe for use for thousands and thousands of rounds after the crack formed.

Call customer service with the frame in hand and be prepared to describe the crack to them. Be prepared to email them photographs.

Best of luck with it; what a bummer. Frowner

Hey guys, Thanks for the advice.

I took it back to the shop and the exchanged for a 6906. The 669 was sweet but the crack to me was a accident waiting to happen.

So I am still in the SW family now...haha.

So now it is time to field strip the 6906 and get it ready for the range. I will let you know how it shoots.
