I'll post pics tonight.

The serial number begins with TDS26XX which is not in the new SCSW. The article on the 6906 states the production went from 1988 to 1999 and they did produce a 6906NS with night sights. However, the night sights on my gun are dated 2000, at least the rear is.

The article also mentions a 1st trigger guard and a 3rd trigger guard. The guard on mine is rounded with serrations on the front like the picture in the catalog.

I don't know the product code as the gun did not come with the original box.

Can someone date this and tell me what the trigger guard referrences mean?

ANOTHER THING - Both the trigger and the hammer are black, not stainless like most of the other 6906 pistols I've seen. This probably means they are MIM. The safety is stainless.

Looking on gunbroker.com past auctions I've found some with hooked trigger guards and some with rounded. Some have black triggers and hammers some silver and there doesn't seem to be any consistency. There are hooked trigger guards with black trigger/hammer and some with silver. There are rounded trigger guards with both black and silver.

I did find a product code 148930 which seems to match having a rounded trigger guard and black trigger/hammer but the code does not appear in the SCSW. I also can't find any correllation between serial numbers and guard/trigger/hammer combinations. There was also a change at some point where the model number was above the serial number instead of the other way round. The former seems to be the later version.

Can't help on the trigger guard..but with that prefix (TDS), wouldn't that indicate an early production, 88/89? (1989 pistols had TED as the prefix, which yours would precede, no? The SCSW is more than a tad confusing. Could the night sights been added later, post production?

I wish the catalog folks would add the prefixes that were used after 1998, would make life a bit simpler...

Good luck with your search...

BTW, I don't remember where I got them, but I have the following prefixes written on a sticky note in my copy of the SCSW..Please, someone correct me if I'm in error with these.

I suspect the night sights were a later addition although I believe they are Novak lowmount night sights.

TenMan,

The correct Lennon line is "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans" from the song 'Beautiful Boy'

I was actually able to get some information over on the SIGforum. One member there has a 6906 which he knows was manufactured in 2000 so the production didn't end in 1999. The black trigger and hammer are indeed MIM and the rounded trigger guard is actually the later version. So, all that fits.
