I'm thinking about getting a S&W Model 22A for target shooting at my local range. However, before I plunk down my money, I've got a few questions:

1) How is take down and cleaning?
2) What are the advantages of longer barrel lengths (5 1/2" or 7-inch barrel)?
3) How is the trigger pull?
4) Have you had any problems with your 22A?
5) How do y'all like the 22A in general?

Thanks!

1. Nothing to it.
2. Depends on what you are using it for. I'm using a 5.5 for Bullseye pistol. Excellent for 25 yds.
3. Seems slightly heavy out of the box. Not like my friend's 41, but not bad.
4. A couple of FTF on Winchester White Box. But, after a couple of hundred rounds, seems to be firing consistantly.
5. I bought the model with the plastic grips. I didn't like them so much. I replaced them with the S&W laminate grip. Feels really comfortable, now.

Cheers

I have a 22A that is great. It has had only one FTF and it was a bad cartridge. The sights aquire quickly. To dissasemble for cleaning it would take me longer to type it than to do it. The thing goes back together even quicker. The trigger pull is not as good as my 52 but is better than my 41. I like this pistol alot. It has to be one of the best values available.

I have the 22S because i like the added weight, the cleaning is not a problem, the 5.5 barrel is fine for caual plonking, the trigger pull is great after 4 years, no problems, it is a great pistol.

I have had my 22A for about 4 weeks and have been through 400 rounds. I love this little pistol. I added a Red/Green dot Bushnell scope and in shooting a rested 50 ft. can cover all 20 shots with a quarter! I think I might even try the Laminate grips too.
I think they are a great bargin for a plinker!

I bought a used 22A. I had to spend about 5 dollars to replace the plastic spacer and recoil spring. I really like this gun. This gun hates Remington ammo but everthing works great. I have other guns but I can do a lot of shooting with this one for a little bit of money.

I love mine. I bought it a couple of months ago but just finally got a chance to wring it out a couple of weeks ago. I put a Bushnell Trophy red dot on it and I absolutely love it. The trigger isn't quite as nice as my 422, but I have no complaints about it at all.
