Can anyone here direct me to any resources to learn how to detail strip the frame on my Model 41? I've searched the web. I've called the factory. I've asked the Bullseye folks. Now I'm asking you.

Before I learn on my own, I am seeking anything that sequences the operations and warns, in advance, about tricky operations, etc.

Actually, no, the question was not answered. The recent topic includes a link which covers field stripping, slide disassembly, trigger weight adjustment, and photos showing how the mag disconnect works. But neither the forum topic nor the link address disassembly of the frame.

I think one of the JB Woods assembly books covered detail stripping of the M41, as did one of the NRA firearms assembly books (James Triggs). Don't know if either are still in print...they both go back at least a decade.

Thanks for the authors; they provided helpful search keys. Found references to each; Amazon stocked only one of them.

Glad it was helpful. And, welcome to the forum.

The JB Wood instructions are generally right on the money (they just saved my ass re-assembling a Browning .22 auto-takedown rifle) and the photos are very helpful...most of his stuff was published by Gun Digest, though, on horrible-quality paper (think recycled phone books).

Also, try half.com and alibris.com for inexpensive used copies. Frankly, I wouldn't have the balls to detail-strip a M41 frame, but, go for it!

I have a M41 that will eventually be getting hard-chromed and an aftermarket optics-only sport barrel...but, first have to get my roof to stop leaking.

Kirk,

Or anyone else, could you please supply the exact title of the reference book? Especially if you find it useful?

I found one reference on Amazon "Automatic Pistols Assembly/Disassembly" by J B Wood which covers 85 models and 255 versions. Seems way too general to be useful for the model 41.

If I find anything useful I will report it here. I want to show my 41 the love it deserves, clean it from the inside out. I figure every 10,000 rounds a gun appreciates that.

Thanks,

That is the book I have (Vol II, 1999) and the SW Model 41 is not discussed in the book. He does have a Vol. III out now, but I would be surprised if the Model 41 is in it. I have seen the new volume and mostly just the pics and some additional disassembly instructions have been updated. I think there maybe a few guns added to this volume but I would go to Barnes and Noble and just view the book first...

Curious as to why you would think the book is too 'general' to be useful when you have not seen the book. In fact, the book is in most cases sufficient. Complex guns such as the SW 41 or HK P7 are not good guns to strip down if you are unsure of your mechanical abilities. YMMV.

Kirk A.
I don't know how detailed you are looking for but you might try this link to Bullseye's Gun talk online. He has also posted in the S & W forum at rimfirecentral.com. Here is the link. http://guntalk-online.com/Model41maintenance.htm
Hope this helps you out.

Regards,

Tom
