Could someone tell me the difference between the two models besides the finish. I just bought the 457, but I now kinda wish I got the 4516. Any info would greatly be appreciated.

The 4516 (no dash, -1 and -2) is a four digit 3rd generation pistol. The 457 is a 3rd generation "Value Line" (no frills with MIM and plastic parts) pistol.
However, if you intend to carry it you should note that the 4516 is all stainless steel (heavy) and the 457 has an alloy frame (much lighter). Good luck, |

The stainless steel/alloy framed S&W M-457 weighs 29 oz and it's all stainless steel brother, the M-4516 weighs 36 oz.
My favorite carry S&W auto in .45 ACP is my bargain priced M-457S. It's 100% reliable, has a sweet trigger, is accurate, and light on the hip. MOONDAWG |

I've got one of each. Both are superb, reliable, accurate pistols, that will serve you well.
I find as I get older, I prefer my 4516-3, for range trips, and IDPA matches. It absorbs the recoil better, and I enjoy shooting it more. With a good belt and holster, it is not that uncomfortable to carry. Regards 18DAI. Model 19 Combat Magnum. Everything you need in a revolver, and nothing you don't. |
