There seems to be two ways the Valtro 1911 were brought into the country. Some are from Jardine and some aren't. I have heard they are next to unobtainable with a long wait.
If it's in good shape and you're okay with the price it should be a fine 1911.
However if the price is up in the same neighborhood as other top line semi-custom 1911's then it's more of a toss up.
At the very least, you'll have a 1911 that no one else will have or probably even have seen.

I have a Valtro PM2 box magazine shotgun. Does that count?

Why the defensive shotgun market is not flooded with detachable box magazine shotguns is a mystery to me. Knoxx was making a box magazine kit for the Mossberg 500 but took it off the market for some reason. Those kits are now rare and valuable, expecially the 10-round drum versions.

I adapted a folding stock kit to my PM2 so it is a great defense gun. I bought the gun in the 1990s from EEA but could not get any extra magazines. I contacted the factory in Italy directly and actually imported a bunch of magazines with Customs clearance and all. It took about six months, but I got them. Still cannot believe it.

The Valtro 1911s are some very nice guns from everything I've read. When they first hit the market, they were real bargains. But as more people heard about them, demand went up and so did prices. I would think that anyone looking to spend a lot for a custom 1911 could get something from Wilson, Les Baer, or Ed Brown that would be as good.

I had given brief consideration to buying one but when other people told me the wait would be considerably more than a year I went for another brand. I have a reasonable amount of patience but it's not infinite.

I would say that since these are supposed to be being made by "John Jardine" but don't carry his name, well, I wouldn't say much for them. I just glanced at their website and it hasn't been up-dated in several months which isn't a good sign.

Thanks to all for the input. I didn't buy the Valtro. To make a long story short while the seller and I were bantering over trade possibilities, he had a cash offer--no trade- which he accepted. He was asking $900.00 for the gun which I thought was realistic.Very few 1998A1s have filtered into Canada over the years so I doubt I'll see another used one come up for sale any day soon. From what I understand Valtro of Italy sends slides and frames to Jardine in California where they are fully tuned and a match barrel is fitted.

If that was a Valtro produced gun it was a good price if it was from Jardine's it was a steal at that price.
