Anyone know off the top of their head what bullet weight the 1006 fixed sights are regulated for?

No, but mine always shot remarkably to the point of aim -- no matter what I used -- inside 35 yards. It was astounding how consistent it was. My 1086 was the same way.

Same here with my 1006 and I hope I will find the same true with my 1086 after it get's here next week. Since you have a 1086 Outrider, does it use the same magazine as the 1006? Agreed, dead bang, even at distance. Think it speaks more of the 10mm round than the sights...

The first time I took my first 10mm to the range, being use to 45 ACP I aimed high and shot over the top of the 14" target. With the 45 I was use to lobbing a bullet like I was throwing a rock. Not with the 10mm that is for sure, even with light loads. Ok, I'll get someone else to shoot it to make sure it is not just me.

All six model variations use the same magazines.

That's nice to know, I have 3 magazines for my 1006, and my 1086 is coming with 4 magazines. So I will be fixed for shooting when I make a range trip that's for sure.

Old Navy,
About four years ago, I sold both my 1086 and my first 1006 with fixed sights (although I'm hoping to recover them both...) I've now got two 1006s with adjustable sights -- sighted in at 100 yards. (The previous owner used them for plates and bowling pin competitions...) On my ex-1086 and the 1006, you could almost overlay the groups of one pistol over the other on 35 yard targets -- they were that close to identical in their groups. It was uncanny -- and maybe even a little scary, they were so close. It's possible the 1086 shot a little better -- sometimes -- than the 1006. But it wasn't uncommon for me to group 25 shots on either or both pistols in a "clump" smaller than a softball off-hand. My 1086 was a little more finicky than the 1006. The only load that ever jammed the 1006 were some weird, weird, weird 3-D brand 220-grain lead wad cutter soft point reloads. The 1086 would "burp" sometimes -- and stay out of battery by about 2mm. It was more of a "stutter" than a jam -- and I could just bump the slide forward to get it to go off. The problem, in part, traced back to magazines. My 1086 didn't like the old series magazines that had magazines springs with the longer "nose" on them. By that, I mean that if you hold the magazine sideways -- as if you're checking to see how many rounds are in it, you can see a tip of the spring in the gap of the magazine follower. The spring wasn't visible on all my other magazines. Smith sent me the shorter springs -- where you couldn't see the spring "tip" anymore. Once the "long" springs were replaced with the shorter one, both pistols became fully and totally functionally perfect. |

I know what you mean about the springs, I have new springs and followers ordered from S&W for my current 3 magazines (I already have a Wolff recoil spring in the gun) and will wait to see what the 1086 magazines are like before I order new parts for the 1086 coming. I figure I will end up ordering a recoil spring and 4 magazine spring and followers.
When I think back on when I got my 10mm (Tanfoglio Witness Wonder Finish) I never got the first magazine on the target. That's when I found out how flat shooting the 10mm is, the sights are adjustable target sights and were set high. When I think back I guess it was probably set close for 100 yards or more, and I was shooting only at about 20 yards on indoor range. A friend shot my 10mm some last spring and shooting from a bench resting elbows on the bench he shot a 1" group at about 25 or 30 yards. We were on his farm, and had put a target on a dead tree. He later ordered a Witness Hunter whith the 6" barrel from one of the online stores and got it for about $500 best I remember. I thought about ordering one, but I don't hunt anymore and could not convince myself to buy one for plinking. My pure, Scientific, Wild-@ssed Guess is mid-range between 180-grain, around 1050 feet per second and 175-grain, around 1275 feet per second. These were the common commercial loading ranges -- the latter being the popular Winchester Silver-tip -- one of the all time commercial -- even now -- great loads for the 10mm. |
