Greetings all,
I recently found a 39 no dash. It's an all steel gun with the original box, 60,000-something serial number range, smooth walnut grips, and the second magazine is still wrapped in the factory wax paper. The brochures were there, but the tool kit was missing. The gun was quite minty, showing little if any signs of firing, just a few handling marks and a slight patina on the front strap. The owner states that the frame was made in the 1954/55 but did not leave the factory until a later date. No factory letter, but the seller, as far as I know is a straight up fellow. Any thoughts on value? I would appreciate any input. I've always wanted a first gen 39 and if the seller's claim is correct, the factory produced just over 900 copies. Thanks. I would say $1000 give or take $150, The standard catalog lists NIB at $1600, EXC at $1100 followed by VG at $800. Of course I saw one on "a certain auction site" that was shipped to Roy Jinks that you can buy for only $4,995.

I have bought several of these over the years from a myrad of different sources. The lowest I have ever paid in that condition is $1100 and the highest (just recently) was $1250.

As you describe it, I'd guess $1150-$1275 range with the spare grips and missing tool kit.
There were 927 of these guns made and they are usually sought-after collector guns. The steel frame guns were not assembled until circa 1966, even though their frames were made around 1955. |

Thanks for the replies. The seller was asking $1500 and would not budge. I decided to pass.

What then, and when were they produced, were the 539 steel-frame models?

So these were like the 39-2, or should I say the 39-2 were like these, but with a steel frame?
Any pics? |

All 39 and 39-2s were aluminum frames with the exception of the 927 steel frames. Aluminum framed 39s can be had at about the same cost as a 39-2. As for the 539s, yes these were steel framed made from 1980-1983 per "the book".
