quivvy: Perhaps you should check out the comments on the following: www.rugerforum.comwww.czforum.comI really like both guns. Having owned Ruger P95s and CZ75bs before I would expect both new models to be excellent. The SR9 is DAO striker fired/ploymer with a thumb safety while the CZ is TDA decocker/ alloy framed. Which is better? It's a toss-up based on the shooters preference. Do read the comments on the Ruger forum closely. The "early" SR9s had trouble with the mags, mag release, locking block pitting, and dry fire damage with the mag safety installed. Those problems were acknowledged by Ruger and seem to be all fixable, but let the early buyer beware!!! SR9 guns produced after mid-December 2007 reportedly do not have those problems except the dry fire issue which is easily fixed by removing the mag safety. Which gun am I going to buy next? An S&W M&P 9mm with a thumb safety (if S&W will produce one!!!). If they don't, I'll seriously look at the SR9.

I have seen the Ruger and it looks to be a nice gun. But for the range I would prefer an all steel CZ.
I own a CZ75B SA and absolutely love it. I have 7k rounds through mine with no malfunctions. It's one of my favorite handguns of many. It's super accurate, sexy, great ergonomics, reliable and reasonably priced.

Of the two I would go for the CZ P01. It's like an S&W Third Generation on steroids. However, I would choose an M&P over both. And say no to thumb safeties on striker fired pistols. It's like having a thumb safety on a revolver.

I would go with the CZ. I'm a SADA fan, and love hammer fired pistols.

I unfortunately own an SR9--i cannot recommend it--horrible trigger--like a little pointed on/off button--very long spongy pull and long reset--both with and w/o mag disconnect installed--dmd
