I got a chance to handle a Ruger SR9 the other day at the store and was very impressed. Anyhow, I havent had a chance to handle the CZ 75P01 but have heard incredible things of the CZ 75. Any comments or personal experience with these two firearms?

Perhaps you should check out the comments on the following:

I really like both guns. Having owned Ruger P95s and CZ75bs before I would expect both new models to be excellent. The SR9 is DAO striker fired/ploymer with a thumb safety while the CZ is TDA decocker/ alloy framed. Which is better? It's a toss-up based on the shooters preference.

Do read the comments on the Ruger forum closely. The "early" SR9s had trouble with the mags, mag release, locking block pitting, and dry fire damage with the mag safety installed. Those problems were acknowledged by Ruger and seem to be all fixable, but let the early buyer beware!!! SR9 guns produced after mid-December 2007 reportedly do not have those problems except the dry fire issue which is easily fixed by removing the mag safety.

Which gun am I going to buy next? An S&W M&P 9mm with a thumb safety (if S&W will produce one!!!). If they don't, I'll seriously look at the SR9.

thanks for the info. i read up alot on the ruger forum and didnt know a cz forum existed. i heard ALOT of negative feedback from new owners, but nothing bad in magazine write ups (not suprised), and also was thrilled with it in my hands. Everyone thats bought one recently that I've heard from HASNT had any issues with it after the mid december (i beleive 12.19.07) build date. i wanted to know if they truly got the bugs out.

any more info? thanks!

I have seen the Ruger and it looks to be a nice gun. But for the range I would prefer an all steel CZ.

I own a CZ75B SA and absolutely love it. I have 7k rounds through mine with no malfunctions. It's one of my favorite handguns of many. It's super accurate, sexy, great ergonomics, reliable and reasonably priced.

I agree with jimmy123X. For the range, I also prefer more weight and barrel length but I'm thinking of an M&P or Ruger for my next carry gun.

Although I'm currently carrying a 3 1/2" barrel gun, the longer I carry the less I'm concerned with the size of the gun: however, weight is still an important consideration.

I like the new black slide SR9s and if nothing new comes out of the SHOT show, I will ensure that I get a SR9 made AFTER the 12/07 date.

The Ruger SR9 problems are all solvable and may now be behind them. Their introduction of the 345 was a mess with guns failing to feed which required feed ramp polishing and in some cases ramp/barrel throating which involved sending the entire gun back to Ruger, etc. No generic running problems with the SR9 that I have read or heard about.

I'd go for the CZ. The SR9 might be a little
cheaper, but still unproven at this point.

CZs can be mil-spec and rather drab, to this:

Go with the CZ, I have an SPO1 and it is by far the most accurate 9mm I have ever shot and built like a S&W which means a tank!! Not a great carry gun, a little too big and bulky but an excellent range weapon. Clarkston, that is a beaut!! Did you have it hardchromed or is that factory?

Of the two I would go for the CZ P01. It's like an S&W Third Generation on steroids.

However, I would choose an M&P over both. And say no to thumb safeties on striker fired pistols. It's like having a thumb safety on a revolver.

Pero nadie sabe cuando;
Asi no, si andas paseando,
Y de noche sobre todo,
Debes llevarlo de modo
Que al salir, salga cortando.

I would go with the CZ. I'm a SADA fan, and love hammer fired pistols.

I unfortunately own an SR9--i cannot recommend it--horrible trigger--like a little pointed on/off button--very long spongy pull and long reset--both with and w/o mag disconnect installed--dmd
