Why is that important?

Why is that important? The incurable smart@ss in me almost said, "Because it is..." Big Grin

But I managed to contain and restrain myself...

Evidently, going to all those Smart@ass Anonymous meetings is starting to pay off... Big Grin

And to make it worse, last night I was surfing gunbroker and saw a 1086 and figured I'd probably be willing to spend 600 on one, so I through a bid in and ended up winning, so now in less then a week I got three.

But never did get the 1006 I was originally looking for!

You did good. I have a 1076 and a 1026, they are the only autos I would consider for wildlife defense(read MISTER Bear)when properly loaded with a hot penetrating load. They are as good as they get for a powerful defense/LE weapon.

I'll trade a 1006 with adjustable sights for a 1086...

In fact, I've got two I'd trade for 1086s.

Mine are great guns. I just prefer the DOA 1086 platform.

And rest assured I will carry and shoot both -- so they will be loved tenderly in a good "forever" home... Big Grin

It may be a possibility, the 1076 is the same size so carrying it is a non issue between the two. Having not shot a 1086 and not being a collector, I bid on a midnight weakness and really did not expect to win the auction. Don't know if I really need both the 1076 and 1086.

We'll see if I like it when it arrives.

NOT NECESSARILY

That is, somebody modified it without S&W's "OK"...

NOT NECESSARILY

In your situation, I'd take it on myself -- for safety sake -- to have "Caution: Gun fires with magazine removed" engraved on it -- if you plan to keep it.

THAT IS CRAZY. BEST WAY I CAN THINK OF TO RUIN THE VALUE OF YOUR GUN IS TO START HAVING SOMETHING ENGRAVED ON THE GUN.

My understanding is, unless Smith did it for a LE agency, the warranty is voided.

NOT SO.

I'm not sure of that, but I'd check.

IF YOU ARE NOT SURE, THEN WHY ARE YOU TALKING?

Odd thought, here, but you might also pick up another slide that hasn't been modified so you could keep the warranty in force.

USE OF A GUN DOES NOT VOID THE WARRANTY. ADDING AN EXTRA SLIDE AND SWAPPING SLIDES IS MORE LIKELY TO VOID THE WARRANTY.

However, I don't know what kind of weird, funky frame seating and problems or slide wear you have with running two different slides on it.

AGAIN, WHY ARE YOU TALKING?

As a SWAG, if you did send it back to Smith, they could probably tell the second slide and frame hadn't "mated" -- and might ask what happened to the original slide...

THIS IS THE MOST BIZARRE ADVICE I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED.
