Well, I have completed the transition. I just traded my Glock 34 for a new M&P9L Pro and I will be shooting it in USPSA Production and IDPA SSP starting with the next matches.

With some 15,000+ trouble-free rounds through various Glock models, I already wonder why I made this change. I guess I am suffering from Glock withdrawal.

Any comments from Glock owners who have experience with this changeover? I would be interested in hearing from those who went back to the Glock as well as those who stayed with the M&P.

After the first time I held the M&P I got rid of the few Glocks I had. For me the M&P trigger was better, the ergonomics better, and I just plain shot the gun better. And I've had no malfunctions of any kind with any M&P I've owned. I think you'll be happy with your M&P...

I have various handguns from different manufactures (S&W – Colt – Ruger – Berretta – SIG – Walther and etcetera). Absolutely no experience what so ever with the S&W MP semiautomatic pistols. If I were young man might possibly procure one but I’m not and not going to. Along the way finances dictated if I wanted to try some thing new then some thing old had to go. As for the Glock I have two examples in 9mm Luger a G17 and G19. Out of the box they simply work functionality as a virtue all of its own. The “No Soul” thing is simply opinionated musings. Good luck with your new S&W MP.

There isn't a S&W M&P being chambered in the 10mm Auto Pistol Cartridge. Until there is, you can keep the S&W M&P. My Glock shoots quite well, thank you very much.

You'll probably get used to the M&P, just as you had to get used to the G34. I've no long-term experience with the M&P line. I've handled them and fired them, and was not particularly impressed. They feel nice, etc., but I can't see them doing anything any better than a Glock will.

I came to Glocks late, within the last 10 years. I've owned or shot pretty much every ordinarily available type/make of handgun, and I have yet to find anything that works better than a Glock for day-in, day-out use. There are plenty of guns that will do as well, but nothing is better than a Glock when it comes to reliability, ease of use, and low maintenance. Glocks are splendid tools, nothing more, nothing less, and for what we use them for that is all they have to be.

I shot a M&P 40 as a rental, but kept my Glocks. The M&P trigger felt mushy to me, and too light for a CCW/CPL carry gun. I know the Glock inside out, and can strip it down to a pile of parts and reassemble if necessary. I can't say the same about the M&P. Tons more holsters and accessories for the Glock also. I'll keep my 2 Glocks thank you.

I got rid of my Glock 23 and bought an M&P 40 and a M&P 9mm. Best decision I ever made. I have put thousands of rounds through both and they are very reliable and accurate. Also I can shoot my reloads through them and was not comfortable doing that with ther Glock. I also hated the Glock trigger and like the M&P much better. The 40 has had a trigger job by Dan Burwell and is one of my favorites to shoot. I am waiting for the 5 inch versions and will be purchasing one of those also.

Withdrawal? You will get over it. Note: In the future, remember, you are not limited in the number of pistols you own. Just keep the ones you have and buy new ones. The old ones don't eat anything.

I own 4 Glocks 2-23's and 2 -34's. I am one of the range instructors at my agency. We are using Glocks since 1994. I compete with a Glock at the local police matches and shoot it just for fun too. In the last 14 years my guess is that I fired over 100000m rounds from one Glock or another. M&P has a long way to go to compete with a Glock. In my humble opinion.

I decided to pick up two new M&P 9mm compacts this past April due to the hype and the rebates. I took them to the range and both of them jammed up multiple times with anything I fed them including +P. I called S&W and sent them back. Three weeks later, I got them back complete with dremel marks. As a result of the reliablity, I no longer own them. Don't get me wrong, I think S&W has a great concept, I just don't feel the M&P's hold up round for round with the Glock. I have put over 65,000 rounds just through my 19 and I have honestly never had a jam. Maybe I'm just spoiled. I realize that machines fail-period. All in all, I feel Smith makes a quality product.

I like the M&P, but I'm sticking with my Glocks as they are a proven commodity. That being said, I just sold my G26 to buy my SW99, but everything I've read about the SW99 was good and I just fell in love with it Smiler

Thanks for the replies. I can tell you that my withdrawal is nearly over. Only one unanswered question remains.

I like the ergonomics and the trigger on the M&P better than the Glock 34 it replaced. It already is working better for me in matches and shoots groups off the bench at least as well as the Glock.

The only question of course is reliability. My Glock experience is that they are dead reliable and simple to detail strip. I never had any kind of malfunction or parts failure during thousands of rounds fired.

If the Smith does as well, my withdrawal will be complete. Only time will tell.

I am in the process of replacing my Glocks (22 on duty, 27 off) with an M & P 40. The search for a duty holster and a drop leg holster is holding me back right now.

I've only put about 300 rounds through it so far with 100 of them being Fed HST. No problems. It's just more shootable to me and fits my hand better. Like another poster, I also am more comfortable using my reloads in the Smith.
