How is it that a piece with a 6946 designation has an alloy frame?

Because Smith was totally inconsistent on the whole 69 3rd generation numbering system.

The 6906 should have been a 5913... compact 59 series, TDA, alloy frame, left in the white... same reasoning on the other 69's...

So... the 6946 is really a 5953, believe it or not...

Why did they do it?... too much pizza?

S&W does these things so that they can make life more interesting for collectors. Actually they want to prove that they have a corporate sense of humor. It is an old tradition at S&W.

I have been looking at a 6946 on GunBroker.com that would have cost me $440.00 after shipping and transfer fees.

Well...while it was not the same killer deal I got on my 1046 ($625.00), I managed to score a 6946 by chance at a local gun store today for $275.00. I stopped in for lack of something else to do this afternoon after already having bought a new car. The 6946 is like new and came with 2 magazines and dead night sights.

This is not my picture, but it's every bit as nice as this.

Needless to say - I feel pretty sassy about the deal... Big Grin

If yours looks that good you definitely got a deal. I handled several last week that had literally been dragged behind a truck for $325 + taxes.

$275 is a very good deal. Go to CDNN to pick up some mags.
