Just thought I would post this on the forum to see if any other members have had this problem. Today I purchased an M&P 45 (4 inch) as an off duty carry weapon. I have had excellent luck with S&W pistols in the past including a 5906 and a 3913. Unfortunately I was deeply disapointed at the M&P 45. After the first 20 rounds the pistol began failing to go into battery every 2nd or 3rd round. The casing would eject, and the fresh round would get hung up on the feed ramp and jam halfway into the chamber. The magazine would have to be removed and the slide drawn back to clear it. This FTF frequency then increased to nearly every round. The pistol would do the same when a new magazine was inserted and the slide was released. The final toll was 65-75 FTF out of 100 rounds fired. The ammunition was new, Federal 230 gr ball. Anyone have any thoughts ?
I have a M&P 9c, but have had no problems. Did you try the other mags also or just remove then reinsert the same mag? You may have a bad one. You may also want to try different brands/types of ammo. Some people say their guns may only like certain "food" even though I've never personally had this problem.
If these simple things don't work, call S&W. They may be able to help over the phone, or, at the worst, they'll send you a box to mail it to them at their expense. I've heard lots of great things about their Customer Service even though I've never had a need to use it.
Did you clean it and lube it before first shooting? That's recommended. I had a master gunsmith do an action job on mine, took it completely apart, had lots of gunk in it. S&W recommends cleaning before first use.
Sounds like something is not right with the gun . I have the 45 and it has performed fine. I would have S&W look at it. It is dissapointing to hear stories like this with such a fine gun.
I spoke with S&W, they are sending me out a shipping label. Hopefully they can correct the problem. The gun felt perfect in my hand, and it appears to be a great concept. I'll post the results after it returns from its repair.
I second that problem. I picked up my new 4" 45 last thursday and had about 5 ftf's on the first box. I was going to shoot another box before making any judgments. my mp9 and 9c are both flawless.
As of today I now have 650 rounds down the tube of my M&P45 and 5 FTF's no FTE's. Now I'm using reloads,(only thing this indoor range allows) so I feel that is the problem. I will be taking this to an outdoor range in the next couple of weeks and I have a bunch of differant brands I'm going to use I'll see how she runs then. So far I'm happy. The trigger is starting to feel real good and my groups at 10yds are getting smaller but still to big at 15yds. I've got to work on that. Also it is shooting to the left and I have let others shoot her and they are to the left also, so a little smack on the rear sight is in order to correct this I think. If it is not a major foul up like Dr.J's I'd keep shooting for at least 1000 rounds and see how it is.

My m&p45 was test fired on 3-14-08 and I had picked it up on the 20th. I shot another box today and only had 1 ftf. I have a mp9 and 9c and both were flawless from day one.
I had a ftf problem, when first got my MP 40. Sent it back to S&W, came back 5 days later. The feed ramp looked like a mirror, as well as the throat and roof ramp. I never had another FTF, been nearly a year and maybe 2500 rounds. It still should not require this treatment to feed properly. But I am betting yours comes back with the same treatment.
