M&P45 returned from S&W today, along with a letter stating they polished the feed ramp, replaced the extractor and tested it. I fired 50 rounds of 230 gr FMJ with no problem. Then I tried 230 gr Federal Hydra-Shok JHP. Same problems as before, rounds hanging up on feed ramp and gun not going into battery. I will have to find some other JHPs to try and see if the gun will only feed hardball

Dr J., just an FYI. If you haven't been there, check out the M&P Forum: http://mp-pistol.com/boards/Lots of good info there.

Sorry to read of your continuing problems. On another forum, I read about some M&P owners having similar problems. The solution offered was to fire varying amounts of ball ammo (500 rounds being the concensus) and then trying JHP again. Sounds like alot of trouble to me. I'll stick with 3rd generation 4566/4516-3. Good luck, hope this helps. Regards 18DAI.

I am very surprised by your expereince. The three shooters that use them locally had had zero problems with their M&P 45's. quote: Originally posted by Dr. J: Just thought I would post this on the forum to see if any other members have had this problem. Today I purchased an M&P 45 (4 inch) as an off duty carry weapon. I have had excellent luck with S&W pistols in the past including a 5906 and a 3913. Unfortunately I was deeply disapointed at the M&P 45. After the first 20 rounds the pistol began failing to go into battery every 2nd or 3rd round. The casing would eject, and the fresh round would get hung up on the feed ramp and jam halfway into the chamber. The magazine would have to be removed and the slide drawn back to clear it. This FTF frequency then increased to nearly every round. The pistol would do the same when a new magazine was inserted and the slide was released. The final toll was 65-75 FTF out of 100 rounds fired. The ammunition was new, Federal 230 gr ball. Anyone have any thoughts ?

Went shooting this weekend with a bunch of friends and put close to 600 rounds through my M&P45. total count now over 2000 rounds and only a few FTF and still no FTE. The 600 rounds were WWB 185 grn. This gun just gets better the more I shoot it.

Hmm. Most of the reports I've seen on the M&P45 have been good. It was next on my list of wants, but I may have to rethink that. Although I've never fired the 45, I was assuming it would have the same quality as my M&P9, which shoots everything I throw at it without any problems. Maybe not?

I just got me a m&p45. the first thing I do with any firearm is give it a very good cleaning. I inspected the feed ramp, it was a little rough. Apiece of 400 with a little oil corrected the ramp. since then I have fired over 300rds. without any type of malfuction. This appears to be a very fine machine to me. By the way I shot three different brands and bullet types including reloads.

I have a M&P9 and had a trigger job on it before I even fired it once (I"m in MA with a mandatory 10lb trigger) I have fired 6 to 8 different brands of ammo including Federal Hydra-shocks with only the S&B giving me FTExt problems. I'm getting close to 1,000 rounds fired, so a specific pistol not liking a specific brand of ammo is always a possibility. Bill

Dr.J,
I have a 4586 that will not feed Hydra's. Works fine with anything else. It may just be the ammo. My 2 cents.
