I stopped by a local shop today and stumbled on a used 1006. I've been hankering for a 10mm S&W lately. Back in the day, I carried a 1076 and, although we did not carry full-power 10mm loads, I really loved the pistol. However, it only had a single mag and no box/papers. The finish showed a bit of wear, but nothing terrible. The asking price is $500 and I just wasn't sure it was worth it. If it was a smaller model, I probably would have jumped right on it. What do you folks think?

I think that's the going rate for the package as described.

Sounds like a crappy deal. Tell me who is selling it and I will take care of it.

Well, it's at...heeeeey...wait a minute! I'm not sure your motives are 100% pure! Big Grin So, judging from the responses, the price is not totally out of line?

I bought a 1006 here in Miami, where everything is expensive for $550. It did have 3 mags, and the box and paperwork. Sounds ok to me...

These days, anything below $500 is a good to great price.

Some are starting to bump into the $625-650 range. And I have seen some go over $700.

Supply and demand seems to come in waves.

You've got people who want it -- right now and will pay a little more.

On the other hand, you get periods where they just sit on the shelf and you can hardly give them away.

I suggest you go back and get it RIGHT NOW! $500 is a real reasonable price , its the rare find if you can get any S&W 10MM for under that price .

Well, I went back today and talked him down to $470. So, the 1006 came home with me. Big Grin Glad I went back today, as he was getting ready to list it on Gunbroker. In fact, he had already started the process. I just saved him a little time.

Way to go!! I took mine out the other day and it shot pretty well. I added a Hogue slip on grip to it and like that. Does your have the adjustable sights? Mines fixed and would like to find an adj. model someday.

Congratulations on a finding a stone, industrial-strength pistol in a great cartridge. Sadly, it will lead to other things. like reloading...

My standard tip is find an old toothbrush, cut the last three inches or so off of the handle with a 45-degree angle across the handle. Then you can use the cut-off piece to press out the slide stop (saves fingernails and teaching the kids and/or dog some new words) when disassembling the weapon. When reassembling it, the little pointy end works to press in the spring-loaded plunger on the slide stop so that it goes into place (again, without broken fingernails, etc.).

Great pistols...you'll love it.
