Seems to be consistant with other 940 owners as well. Wonder why?

pred: I've also found that to be true about 640's from the same era. I have no idea why, but it seems like some of the best J-frame actions that ever came out of the factory were on all-stainless Centennials built from 1990 to 1995. My standard 640, which has never had any work done on it at all, has a buttery-smooth trigger that actually beats the Performance Center tuned action of the PC-640.

By the way, those Colts look great side-by-side with your J-frames! I also have a Cobra--my one and only Colt revolver--and it's a sweet-shooting gun, every bit as nice as the little Smiths.

Hi Sonny (Crocket)
LAPD policy on J-frames (and revolvers) has changed over the years. What's allowed now is .38 only (hasn't changed) and the duty load is the 135 gr Speer (gold dot). DAO continues to be the rule. It used to be exposed hammers only, though, (36, 49, 60 or 649) and steel frames. LAPD Doctrine was to load and rotate the cylinder to check for high primers. That changed a few years back and concealed hammer guns are now allowed, as are Airweights that are plus-P rated. Revolvers can only be carried as an off-duty, back-up or undercover weapon, unless you're an old-timer that originally trained with one in the Academy. Autos are making serious inroads, but revolvers are still popular as back-up and off-duty weapons. Hope this was interesting.

Yes, it was. Thank you very much.Smiler I like hearing about the older/larger agencies such as LAPD, NYPD, etc. I've heard NYPD is happy with the new Speer load. I assume LAPD is happy with it too? Thank you again.

EDITED TO ADD: Bob, do you know what LAPD's restriction on alloy frames was for originally? Just wondering. Seth

Hi Seth
LAPD allowed alloy-framed revolvers (J-frames and Colt Cobras) until Plus-P was approved in the early 80's. Steel-only was then mandated (I saw many old coppers with alloy guns, however, that didn't change over and just continued to load up their alloy guns with the new Plus-P loads). With the advent of the new Plus-P rated alloy guns, alloy was again approved for carry several years back (I went to a 442 for use in Narcotics and loved it). The new Speer load is very well liked and is doing a great job. I still have some issue stuff left that I carry in my 2 J-frames.

Thanks again Bob. Sounds like LAPD just wanted to make sure there were no issues with snubbies maybe not being able to handle the +P loads.
