I just found a 66 marked on the yoke 66-1. The gun however has the smaller trademark on the left and no pinned barrel. The serial is 98K which is 1981. Would this be a transitional gun , refitted or ??? I thought 1982 and 66-2 would be the end of the pinned barrel and the smaller trademark. Any markings also to look for a factory redone gun? Curious at least to me!!
I believe you are correct about it being a transition gun. My 66-1 is P&R'D. I didn't realize there were any like yours. I doubt that anyone would go to the trouble of re -marking them.
Of course, I'm a S&W user.....not a collector!!! So what do I know!!! Bob

Thanks for your answer Bob. I doubt anyone would remark it either. I guess there are exceptions to every rule! Maybe someone has a similar gun out there.
Don't have a 66-1 but I have a few 19-4's. A couple are pinned and a couple aren't. 19-5 was the change to non-pinned so.......yep it happens. S&W is not known for throwing parts out just for an engineering change.

I have 2 66-1s one 59K the other 64K these were near the tail end of the production 1980, both P&R, these also were the 6 1/8 barrel, instead of the 5 7/8.
