Well just put 200 rounds thru my new 4 incg 22 lr 617.

Love the 10 shot capacity...........but Its not a very accurate gun. My old model 17 6 inch 22 shoots far tighter groups.

Not a very good looking gun either... nothing like blue steel...

Come to think of it, Why did I buy it in the first place???? I gues that 10 shot capacity was to hard to resist.

Wish it was more accurate, if it keeps shoot so-so groups groups going on the for sale pile. Maybe its my eyes? anyone have the same disappointment?

Most .22's, rifles included are VERY ammo sensitive. Identical models often require different brands of ammo. Go to your favorite ammo supplier and buy a box of every brand you can afford. Start testing and when you find the "correct" one, buy LOTS of the exact same brand and LOT # for best long term results.

I have a 617 and am very happy with it.

Let us know how things work out.

The 2" barrel difference could be a contributing factor.

Will do. Just a 2.5 - 3 inch group from a dead rest at 25 feet...........I got almost the same group with my old model 34 snubbie at the same distance. Anybody want to share what ammo.brand works best for them?....Would appreciate any help

I really like my 4 inch 10 shot 617. I only use CCI sv or Federal sv in it.

I liked it so much that I sold my 1952 k22 and 34-1 4 inch because it was just as accurate and a lot easier to clean.

The 617 is a little more accurate for me in d/a than s/a.

I've been on the lookout for a 4" 617 steel cylinder prelock 10 shot, and finally found it a couple of weeks ago. I probably "bought it a little soon", but I've had a hard time locating one. I ran several different brands thru it this weekend, and the best was about 4" at 25 yds off sandbags. I hope I can find something better, I was hoping for tighter groups.

Check out the new ones.A lock isn't going to matter for a range gun IMHO.Keep your pre-lock for when you want to look at a pre-lock version.

They're drilled and tapped for a scope mount. Mount one for accuracy/ammo testing. Figure out if you have a gun accuracy issue or a sight/sight radius/vision issue.

Something must really be wrong with your 617 if it's not accurate. What ammo are you using? I shoot the cheap Wal Mart Federal bulk pack when I'm just informally plinking or shooting pins, but I tested both my 10 shot 4" and 6 shot 6" with CCI Green Label. Both are just as accurate as my M41 from a rest. My father liked the 6" so much that I ended up giving it to him.

Results of the 1998 Massachusetts gun laws:

It is important to keep in mind the ISP reports show that firearm related homicides decreased 56% from 1994 to 1998.

From 1998 to 2002, firearm related homicides increased 48%. During the same time, firearm related accidental deaths have increased 200%.

Will work for ammo.
