Recently bought a super nice colt trooper 357 mark 111. A avid S&W guy said the colt python was a fine firearm but the trooper was a boat anchor compared to S&W, that gun stores could not give away. Obviously I did not feel good about that comment. What do you guys say.

I'd say that person don't know shit about good guns.
I always felt the trooper had a great double action and was built like a tank, that's my two cents. |

The trooper is an excellent firearm. Extremely accurate. I had one one time that had an 8 inch barell in 357M. I wish I still had it.

Ask your friend (avid S&W guy) to explain the subtle nuances between the actions
I would be interested in hearing him expand on the difference Giz |

I'm not sure what planet that guy is from, because Colt revolvers (in good shape & reasonably priced) are getting increasingly difficult to find in my neck of the woods. Please try to get the name of the store where they can't give them away. I'd like to stop by and help them out. Here's a good article on the Trooper:
http://www.gunblast.com/RKCampbell_ColtTrooper.htm The Trooper is a very good gun, IMHO. Take care of it, and enjoy it. It's another piece of firearm history that won't be coming back any time soon. |

There have been some issues with the sintered steel used in the hammers and triggers. But if yours has held up okay, fine.
The Trooper III was designed to hold its timing FAR longer than earlier Colts would. But parts and service may be problems, if ever needed. T-Star "There is nothing quite so exhilarating as to be shot at without effect." Sir Winston Churchill, KG |

I still kick myself for passing up a 98% older but unboxed Trooper 4 incher for $250.00. Just didn't have the cash at the time.

Loving S&Ws (as we all do) does not preclude loving Colts too.
My favorite, but far from only Colt, is my 6" Officer's Model match. When I want to shoot single action target I opt for the Colt. When I want to shoot rapid fire double action, the Smith is my choice. But both can substitute for the other and not much bad can be said about either. Don't let some know-it-all jackass tell you what you should like. I'd LOVE to have your Trooper. CONGRESS: 535 men stabbing fleas with an ice pick while oblivious to the dog underneath. |

that someone is entitled to his opinion. However, if he can't say something good, he might want to consider keeping it to himself(; yeah, right!).. Morons -and there are plenty of them- usually distinguish themselves from others in a most ignoble manner: specious talking.

IMHO The biggest difference (which explains my prefence for S&W with the exception of a match tuned python) is the S&W action is harder/stronger ETC at the begining of the trigger stroke, easier at the end and all the Colts I have shot are easier at the begining and harder/stiffer at the end of the stroke. In DA mode I can and do stack the S&W trigger/hammer towards the end of the stroke to allow a final check of the sight alinment before the hammer releases. I can not do this with a Colt The Colt Trooper is a fine firearm and should give you years of enjoyment God & Soldiers, we like adore in times of danger, not before The danger past, all conflict righted God is forgotten, the soldier slighted |
