A few years ago one of my deer hunters gave me a satin nickel Trooper 6" in .22 mag. It had rubber grips with Colt medalions on them. Never could hit anything with it for some reason. It seemed to be a good quality pistol but it just didn't work out. Sold it to raise money for an AR-15.

Funny that some folks are so sure that their preferred make of gun (or anything) is the best of everything. I assure you there are probably more Colt enthusiasts that consider S&W a tier 2 make than the reverse. S&W has never been the ultra premium brand. Don't get me wrong - I love S&Ws...but it makes me laugh when some guys get snooty about the brand. It's like getting snooty about RC Cola.

Even though I have several S&W I picked this Colt up today for under $650.00.

My main reason for not buying Colts or Dan Wessons is the cylinder release.I find the push style as found on the S&W and Ruger to be more natural and faster for me.I try to minimize the number of operational differences between weapons that I might have to depend on in a high stress situation. But whatever works for each person.

I had a Trooper MkIII in .22 that I foolishly traded. Even though I have Diamondback in .22, I wish I had that Trooper back. I bought an original .38 Trooper this past weekend at the gunshow. Shot it Sunday along with my Python. It is every bit as accurate, not quite as smooth, but SA is crisper than the Python. I prefer S&W triggers, but I own several Colt revolvers and like them. BTW, were there ever MkII/MkIV Troopers, even if only protoypes?

One gun I have for years regreted getting rid of was my Colt King Cobra 6" 357 Magnum. It was an excellent shooter and a beauty to look at and hold.

The reason I got rid of it was I fell out of boat (swamped by another boat that didn't stop) and had gun strapped on and had to drop gun belt to get to surface. I was able to retrieve it with large magnet that I always carried for possible salvage around in the rivers and lakes. The only thing I ever retrieved was the Colt that damn near drowned me in 15 feet of water.

What I should have done is not taken it in the boat in the first place.
