I have only been a member a short time and remember at one point coming across a thread that explained how to determine approximate year of manufacture but can't for the life of me find it now. I have a 28-2 4" that I picked up some time back at a pawn shop at what I think was a fair price. It came with nothing but I purchased it just as a shooter so it didn't really matter. My question is though if anyone could give me an idea how old the gun is and exactly how do you read the serial number on these?

Model 28-2
Serial # N528***

Thanks in advance for your time.

I would guess about 1978. The serial number starts with an N and is followed by the numbers. It is stamped in the yoke cut and on the bottom of the grip frame.
