HELLO' I'VE LOOKED THRU THE FAQ. SECTION. AND COULD NOT FIND A ANSWER TO MY QUESTION. WAS THERE A YEAR THAT THE 29-2 WENT TO THE 6 INCH BARREL. OR WAS THIS A OPTION AT THE TIME OF 29-2 RUN. I APOLOGIZE IF MY SPELLING IS WRONG. THANK YOU.

I believe the 6 1/2" bbls were the standard on 29-2 and older .44's. I think the switch to 6" came in the early 80's at roughly the same time as the switch from pinned and recessed (29-3) but you should never say never when it comes to S&W variations.

Big bang, much smash'em.

I believe 1979 was the last year for the 6 1/2" barrels, then the 6" ones came out.

Rigmover is correct. The factory standardized the barrel length for all N-frame revolvers at six inches in 1979 and the first 29-2s with that barrel length appeared in the second half of that year.
