I saw one of these in a local shop for sale for $500 it seems to be in very nice shape and is unmesswith and fired very little. The owner told me it had half a box of 25 year old magnum ammo (a 20 round box) come in with it and its wearing wood target grips, no box no papers.
Most liely it was fired once and put in a drawer for the looks of it.

What would you say the value of this gun is on the current market? Timing and lockup were perfect, and the BC gap is miniscule.

Should I hagle or buy it??

How rare are P&R stainless 629's I have never seen a P&R stainless gun before.

Thanks

I'd give it a hard look, especially if it was a 4". 6" a little less, 8&3/8" not at all . . . but that's just my preferences.

And haggling is half the fun . . . . Smiler

If it has a 4" barrel I would have in my safe right now for that price.

At least have 'em throw in the tax to make it $500 OTD...

What will it hurt to ask if he'll take $450..... You know he has some margin on it, may just depend how much business he has had this week.

$500 is a fair price. $ 450 is better.

Not exactly rare, but getting hard to find. A P&R 629 in this neck of the woods, will easily go for 500-800, depending on condition and accoutrements...box, papers, tools. Haggle the price, but if it truly looks that new, jump on it...especially if it's a 4 inch.

It's worth $500 by itself regardless of barrel length.

4" guns were made for only one year.

IIRC the 8 3/8" P&R 629's were only made for one year too.

True, but they're not as desirable since the barrel is too long - by approximately 4 3/8". Big Grin

Hey arc2x4
The 629 was introduced in 1979 in 6" guns. They were serial numbered with an "N" prefix. In 1981 S&W introduced the 629 in 4" and 8 3/8". In 1982 the -1 guns came out. Also about 1982-83 they changed the serial number to an "ABC" prefix.

The 4" gun is recessed but not pinned. Quess what I'm looking for? I my area these early guns go for around $700!
