No lock (sorry kitty), rubber grips, nice shape, although a little leady n the forcing cone, but I think it just needs a good cleaning with a tight brush. Had never seen one of these in 4” before; so for $465 including tax, I put down some earnest money for it, and will return when I get my NJ "purchase chit" for it. Serial CEK62xx, no other goodies, but I am REALLY excited about shooting this one. I have a couple of blued 17's in 6”, one from the 50's and another from the late 70's, but this one feels really good in the hand. Feels much like my 586 4" from hefting this one in the shop. Will of course post photos when it's in my hot little hands! Love it!

Would you care to share where you found it?

I have a 617-2 4" 6-shooter that was made back in '93. Words fail me in describing how much I love to shoot it. Enjoy!!

Serviecgun, it was Effingers in Bound Brook. Shhhhhh, don't tell anyone! They've also got a nice looking Colt SAA for $1200, but that's too rich for my blood. Somewhat small selection, but even a blind squirrel (me) will find a nut once in a while.
Stevieboy, what ammo works well in yours? I've had good luck in all my 22 handguns, with CCI standard velocity ammo. - Nick |

I swing by there every few weeks.
They can be reasonable in price. I picked up a minty 6" Model 10 there for $300 a couple of months ago. Is the 617 a six shot or ten shot gun? NMPinNYC, I've shot both CCI Minimags and Federal bulk pack .22 in my 617. Both perform well, but Ive become a real fan of the Federal ammo. First, because it's a lot cheaper than the CCI ammo. Last month I picked up two boxes of 550 at WalMart for $11.50 per box, whereas the MiniMags run about $7 - $8 per hundred. Second, the Minimags seem to burn cleaner than the CCI. I get sticky extraction beginning after only about 30 or so rounds of CCI whereas I can shoot all day without encountering this problem with the Federal ammo. Also, the CCI leaves the face of my gun's cylinders as black as coal, less so with the Federal. Finally, I get occasional misfires in da with with Minimags (about 1 per dozen rounds) whereas I never have that problem with the Federal.

oops, should have said that the FEDERAL burns a lot cleaner than the CCI.

I just picked up a 617-4 with 6" barrel and 10 shot cylinder. It's my first 22 revolver, and I was really impressed. It has a super smooth action and is snake sniper accurate. As a LEO, I have all semi-autos and most are Performance Center models. My only revolvers are the 617, 610 and 686. I haven't shot the 610 or 686, but the 617 is making me rethink revolvers. Now looking for a 648, and I really don't need one.

Since when is it about need? Buy it if you can afford it! SWCA #2031 Here's to the Army and the Navy and the battles they have won. Here's to America's colors, the colors that never run May the wings of liberty never lose a feather Wang Chi & Jack Burton |

I have a pre-lock 617 4" 6 shot. It's one of my most prized .22's. Great shooter and accurate too. Found it by accident in a gun shop I use to frequent in Goshen NY when I used to live in NYC. Went for vacation to visit my son and stopped in to visit the old gun shop and there it was in the case. it had been sitting there for almost a year. $495.00 NIB. I bought it and had it shipped to my FFL in Fl. The gun got to Fl before I even finished my vacation. Needles to say it's no longer NIB as I have shot it frequently. It's one of the most fun guns to shoot in my collection.

My 4" 617 No Dash 6 Cylinder is my favorite plinker & sees almost as much range time as my Ruger MKII, It's Deadly Accurate & loves the Federal 550 Value Pack Ammo..
I traded a M242 that I had $375 in so I figure I have under $400 in this sweet little 22lr. One of my Most favorite Range S&Ws, Sips the 22lr ammo & is scary accurate with the federal. Gary/Hk Headknockers M617 4" 6 Cylinder |

The 617 is hard to beat. I have one that has two cylinders with it, a six shot and a 10 shot. Have to change the hand when you change cylinders. Great shooter. Later John
