Anyone else get tired of looking at all the prissified Safe Queens...then hearing the collectors call all the rest "shooter grade" Seems not only silly, but denigrating....
Well, let's change that! I propose a new category of guns here at the forum, for us working stiffs ~ Safe King Kind of the John Wayne class of honest, dependable, tried, and true gun. Gun that doesn't mind getting a little dirty once in awhile. Here's mine. A working mans' 629 no dash, P&R.... I'd be proud to pull this gun out in front of anyone's boxed up gun that doesn't see the light of day...How about you? Giz |

Since it does get dirty once in a while it loses the royalty status so how about Duke (for John Wayne) or Earl for a title?

Giz,
"Safe King", I like it in theory and rhetoric. New terminology for us "gun nuts". Is this the "grail" gun post that disappeared in the Lounge? Tried to view and it "poof" disappeared. This isn't a "one of one hundred" per chance, is it? Randy ------------------------- No Brag, Just Fact! |

Randy,
It is the holiest of all the holies'. The one gun that I have been searching for for over 20 years. I am due to pick it up next week and pulled the post, because I didn't want to hex the deal.... And so my Amigo's~ Lets see some pics of Safe Kings...or are all your guns to dainty? Giz |

Wow, finally I have a way to categorize all of my guns.. They have all been promoted to Safe King!!
This one has 13 years in a LEO holster, 10 years in a saddle bag on the ranch. Semi-retired now but I bust a cap with it just to let it know it is still loved. I only have a couple of guns that I haven't fired. A 1840's vintage pepperbox and a Colt .41 Thunderer that was given to me by Wyoming's last Train robber. This message has been edited. Nothing dainty about this puppy...

Conrad & Photog...
Now that's what I'm talking about. Workin' Guns, real guns that see some use. Guns that don't sit around gettin' primpy photo ops'. Guns that wouldn't know what Renaissance Wax is! Guns that could care less about their pedigree and more about the ammo they chew up.... Safe Kings..... Show 'em if you got 'em ~ Giz |

I like the concept. While I am guilty of hoarding more than a few 'queens' I do have a whole bunch of 'working' guns. Here is one of my favorite's.
M29-2 vintage 1963. RD From the rockin' of the cradle to the rollin' of the hearse the going up was worth the coming down. |

Giz,
Made me get all the photo stuff out. Here's my "Safe King". My 29-2, used to hunt with it when it had a 8&3/8" hogleg bbl. Bought the 4" pinned bbl. and had my smith swap-out and do an action job. Super slick and accurate. The box of ammo came with a 629 I had that looks just like yours. Every day wear and use accoutrements included in shot. The watch just for MickeyD. Did I call it or can't you say it's a 1 of 100 yet? Randy ------------------------- No Brag, Just Fact! |

Thanks Randy,
Though all my guns go to the range, they are all in fairly good condition, as are my watches. I enjoy wearing those mechanical wonders also. Here's my Russian pair. ***Honesty is the foundation of one's character.*** |
