Well yes, exactly.

Firearms should not be abused (I hate those movie scenes where actors flip the cylinder of a revolver, or hammer home a semi's magazine with sledgehammer force), but they are tools and should be used.

I don't see the point in owning a gun that you're afraid to shoot. If it's being kept as an "investment" and you're concerned about diminishing its future monetary value, do yourself a favor: sell the thing now and put the money in blue chip stocks (which require no maintenance, pay you dividends, and will likely have better appreciation in the longterm). Otherwise, enjoy it (we only go through life once!).

Here is a S&W that has been in use since 1930. It has migrated from MI. in 1930, to FL, sometime over the last 78 years. It came to me with rubber grips, that I replaced with stag grips that I found at a gun show in OH. The stag grips have eight notches on them. five on one grip, and three on the other. I had it papered by Roy Jinks, but I would love to know the history of its use after it left the hardware/distributor that S&W sent it to in 1930. Also the history on the stag grips.
