34-2 began? Or, was there even a 34-2?

The 34-2 was introduced in 1988. Some 34-1's had diamond stocks, some had pinned barrels and some didn't.

This 34-1 I'm getting is pinned and recessed but no diamond grips. It's a 4" bbl and should look nice with my 2" 34-1 pinned snubbie. I'll post a pic when I finally get it.
