First, The older S&W's are NICE! Smiler ,
Sweet trigger pull, Fired 3 rounds at 15 yards. 1 1/2 inch.
At 25 yards less than 4 inch with flyers , ME.

At 50 yards about 8 inches, with some flyers and LOW,
I sighted in with 210 grain, @ 50 Yards the 170 grain was low..
I need to get use to the 'Quick' trigger, A few rounds surprised me.

The reloads were mine but a mixed bag of powder and bullets.
The gun shoots GREAT.....But the Herret target grips have to
go, There ok from a rest, but really jams into the web between
the thumb and the first finger.. I will try the packmeyers
next range trip, and some new reloads....
Now The question, How about some suggestions for a Hunting load
for a 6 inch Model 57. ( 41 Mag of course )..

I reload, Hunting Deer in Northern maine,

150 -200 lbs, and some bigger , but so far 200+ have eluded me...

I also could use a accuracy load,, Like to see how good the
gun will shoot...

Deer...Sierra or Hornady 210 with H110 powder...start at 20 and work up to about 22 with the Sierra or 23 with the Hornady. I use WW cases, WW LP Primers and finish off my rounds in a Lee Factory Carbide Crimp Die.

Acuracy load...like for target work... 8.0 grain of Unique will be just over a 1000 fps in a 6" gun...bullet doesn't seem to matter. Crimp tightly and use the WW primer or a Magnum primer and you get no unburned powder. 7.0 grains of Winchester 231 also is very acurate and should be in the mid 900s.

I hunt the Lincoln area almost every fall...a friend has a cabin 5 miles out a dead end dirt road with only two other houses on the road...not a lot of deer but they are big.

Thanks for the load data.. I have some H110, I'll try it with
the 210 grain,
From the few rounds I fired, I had the impression the the
Mdl 57 didn't care for 170 Grain bullets...

Ditto on Bigger Deer, I hunt up by Moosehead, Monson area..
Big woods, Hard to catch up to the Big ones...

Best so far was 195 lbs, Butcher dressed ( Nothing inside ).
Shot it with a Ruger 357Max, (Awhile back when I was younger ).
Unfortunately the Ruger is pretty well shot up,
May try the S&W this year...

Lincoln; Thats over by Mattawamkeg ?, Went early Bear there one time...Lot's of woods for deer to hide Smiler

6 or 7 grains of Unique and a cast swc is accurate in most 41's that I am familiar with.

170s work very well...26 grains of H110 really makes them sing... They will hit significantly lower than the 210s however.

Yes..my friends cabin is two miles before the Mattawankeg Wildernes Camping area... Who did you hunt bear with over there...a guide?

I'll try the 170's, I got a bunch of them.

The guy ran a camp on a side road going to Lake Mulunkus.
I think that was the name of the camp. It was not on the lake though... Interesting guy !!! Different...

....all bear guides are "different"...

The 170s are great for side lung shots...they expand well and penetrate deeper than expected. The last deer I took with a handgun was with the 180 grain .44 version of that bullet. Deer dropped on the spot.

Gary Reeder of Reeder Custom Guns has taken elk with that bullet from a .41 GNR and .410 GNR..
