Going by memory, here (...knowledge-based processes, as we say in neutron-world: always a risky venture), I think that it was S221184. I should pick up my earlier (buncha zeros) 4-screw M28 this weekend and will post photos; also I'll verify the info on the above xxxx84 4-screw no dash if it's still there. -S2

This was my first handgun I ever shot. I wanted to see if the .357 would go through a telephone pole. It did, and I didn't know about ear protection.

My Dad gave this to me about 8 years ago. It has some light rough spots from the years in the holster, but I'll never get rid of it. Ser 2816XX mfg 1966-67.

S2- looking at the tag on the no dash, xxxx84 is certainly a possibility. Of course, so was 34.

Thanks for taking the time to look at it again for us. That's what makes this board great.

Here are a couple of my HPs. I'll try to post better pics soon.
First, here is my 5-screw Highway Patrolman S109XXX.

Second, here is my plain jane 28-2 with a S246xxx serial number.

PZ93C, confirmed that 4-screw M28 no-dash's sn is S221184, and it's still in the shop.
Also, today I brought home a couple of new (to me) N-frames, one of which fits into this thread; another M28 no-dash, 6", sn 190000 (previously I reported it as 1200000...wrong again). Anyway, here's some photos of it wearing some of those new Altamont's (...better than the goodyears that it came with, but still not quite right); also the newbe along with my 4" M28-2 (sn S2244xx):

Still too cold to shoot today, so I'll just have to make the rounds to some of the local gun shows to find some better grips. -S2

Because S221184 is a 4 screw 28 no dash. If your 28-2 is S221xxx and it's a 3 screw, which both of those appear to be, we've narrowed the gap between SN's for the beginning of the 3 screw frame.

We appreciate the additional information.

This 28-2 was shipped 9/22/67. Serial # S2882xx. It's a former Wisconsin State Patrol gun. Regards, Jerry

I have a 6" 4 screw S2039xx. Came with diamond target grips. Should the grips be serial numbered to match the gun? No number is visible on the grips, and they fit very nicely.

Could have, but it also could have had Magna's and the Targets were fit by the dealer or ordered with both sets.

Targets stocks weren't regularly numbered and have been heard of only once or twice.

Have you lettered it? Roy may be able to tell you.
