I have not seen this gun yet but I am looking into a Md 27-5 5 inch gun that I have located. I assume it is one of the 3 1/2 and 5" "reintroduction guns" that were made in 1991. The product number is 100996. There are no papers, tools or a box with it and the grips are said to be checkered factory Smith grips. The SCSW says this gun should have Morado wood target stocks. Can anyone tell me what those grips are? Any ideas on a value in 98% condition. It would take about $550 for me to buy it. I am thinking I should wait for a Md 27-2 to come along.
bravastar1, A few months ago I was lucky enough to come across 2 models 27-5 in 3 1/2 . I didn't know anything was special about them until I asked on the forum. One had target stocks that looked as through they were made of walnut that you find on older rifle stocks, solid without grain and the other brownish/redish with vertical strips that gave a dramatic look to it. I bought the nicer one and passed on the basic looking stock. Maybe a mistake but the difference was so great side by side the plain one looked out of place. So to answer your question I THINK the morado stocks have a rich color and very good vertical strip coverage. If and when I get a camera I'll post some pics. Mine is ANIB with some papers but no cleaning kit and I was offered $900.00 by a forum member. Hope this helps. Richard. P.S. A BIG THANK YOU to PARA, without this forum I would have passed on this fine classic handgun .
