This is my oldest S&W, a 2nd Model American, Commercial Russian Model. It's also known as a First Model Russian, or Old, Old Model Russian. The caliber is 44 Russian and it was shipped on November 29th, 1873 as part of an order of 150 units. The factory letter from Roy Jinks, also states there were a total of 5,165 commercial First Model Russians made.

Not that this is a competition, but that .32 of mm6mm6 is a lovely gun and a lovely photo.
here's my oldest, 1916, .455 HE Mk. II. It is also my second favorite S&W of all of mine - because I still carry it periodically and use it. I love that. It clearly has the wrong grips on it, but I'm working on that and hope to find some soon. Physics 101: "Velocity" is speed and direction. Otherwise it's just "speed." |

This is my oldest Smith & Wesson, a Pre War 38/44 Outdoorsman that shipped on August 4, 1933 to Union Hardware & Metal Co., Los Angeles, CA. The front sight has been modified sometime along the way, the grips number, and every time I think about letting it go, I get it out of the safe and look at the stunning workmanship that will never be again, and I put it back in the safe with a smile.
This is a great thread; thanks to all who have shared! Best, Michael ____________ S&WCA #1804 ___________________________ N-Frame-itis, there is no cure. |

Dude, my .455/.45 Colt came with identical stocks. It's since changed. 1915 2nd Model in .45 Colt is my oldest S&W. (\__/) (='.'=)This is Bunny. Copy and paste bunny into your (")_(")signature to help him gain world domination. |

The correct grips look like that, but have gold medallions and are slightly larger - those are k frame grips and slightly too small for the frame. If you have any of the correct ones, I'd be happy to trade for them or buy. Physics 101: "Velocity" is speed and direction. Otherwise it's just "speed." |

Oh, I know they are K frame stocks. Mine came with the same K frame stocks. Kinda wierd. Fresh out of correct ones, though. Sorry about that. (\__/) (='.'=)This is Bunny. Copy and paste bunny into your (")_(")signature to help him gain world domination. |
