A local shop has a refinished 1917, 70xxx, with a broad-arrow C on the left rear frame and the crossed flags acceptance mark on the left frame at the barrel. No US markings. Lanyard ring missing. The refinish is so-so, not butchered but obvious. The rear of the cylinder has been faced off. Bore is good, just not excellent. Set of modern magnas on it. Shop has $289 on it. Not sure I want to pay this for a shooter....

If it's in mechanically good shape it is certainly worth that as a shooter. I would offer $250.00 out the door but would certainly pick it up at his price. I would look for another cylinder so I could make a 45 Colt out of it and never look back.

Look again. I suspect you are looking at a 455- 2nd Model converted from 455 to 45 ACP or 45LC. A 1917 would be a 5.5" barrel, a 455 would have a 6.5".

I suspect you are correct, Lee. That thought has been gnawing on me since yesterday. I was in a rush....
