I have a client who sent me these in the hope of bringing them back from the dead. With his permission I will do a step by step with you folks with pictures. Kinda like, does this dummy know what he's doing? And yes you have to put up with the bad humor.Smiler
The victim's, a pair of nicley oil soaked and chiped Brazilian .45 stocks. An attempt will be made to bring back as as much grain as is possible.

You can see the oil on the paper. they sat there for about two minutes.

The first step will be a nice bath in a brand new jar of acetone. I will check them tomorrow after supper but more than likely they'll have to go back in.

See ya tomorrow.Smiler

Okay, suppers done and the wine is poured. As suspected we are going to need another dunk in the sauce.
If you look at the previous picture you will notice how much darker the acetone is.

On the drying table, my furnace.Smiler Hey it works good.

After two hours of drying. Notice the dark spots.

That there is oil boys.Smiler

We'll take another peek tomorrow.

Good post. It will be interesting to see how you repair the missing pieces and raise dents. Never could raise a dent in wood even with a torch to heat the piece of metal and varying layers of wet to damp cloth. Larry SWCA1761

If you want to pull all the oil out spray them with Easy Off Oven cleaner let them set for about 15 min. and wash them off with water let dry.It will also take off old finish. To get dents out put a damp cloth over them and iron out the dent with a iron.the heat and water will steam the dent up.
